You were asked after at the AHDB meeting tonight by a young lady.... she wanted to know how your back was....
Sorry i was coming at the question from a wrong angle. Iv had b and w bulls in the past and found what you say but i take it steers are easier to finish? Most black and whites up this neck of the woods tend to be bulls. For starters they can be extremely nasty.
Another reason that you will struggle to get them to decent weights/grade at the age required.
Worth looking into the B scheme but a lot less cows have been put to the B/W bull in the last 12 months and supply going forward could be a problem.
Did you see any ewes sold @Old TipWell bit the bullet and took the few lambs i had left on the feeder in, they were in perfect order and actually sold well on the day apart from the first one which went in the ring which for some reason never got going. 40kg Charly x Chev £77, 43kg 73.50, 46kg Chev Mules 74.50, 41kg £70
Costs £3.50 a lamb inc 73p levy

Will tell you in a month or 2 if there was any sense but does sound abit ify but if the fat is £100 in a few weeks won't be so bad. If your end price was guaranteed everybody would be biding.Makes it interesting and at least you can't say it's better off earning interest in the bankSedge store lambs on Sat averaged around £63 head..
Sedge fat lambs on Mon averaged around £70 head..
Now where is the sense in that?

It will be the end of march/april/may.Depends on how big/heavy they are and quality. Will have to be tight skinned Tex/Beltex x or SuffxTex.Can hogs really go to £100 head by March??
A bit will depend on the exchange rate but I reckon we are looking at similar prices for hogs/ suck lamb as last year in the spring months ( hope im very wrong mind )
No sense at all,but its always been like that.Good quality at £63 might still make £93-£103 by April.Sedge store lambs on Sat averaged around £63 head..

FFS We were told at the AHDB meeting that NZ lamb was not much different in price to ours, so you know why they import it don't youHope not but you may be right @cull cows there buyers weren't at the marts on Tuesday and heard they were down to 2/3 days a week killing as they are to busy cutting and packing NZ lamb
