Sorry for the bad photos. But this heifer due to calve any day has had this eye problem for a while. When she came indoors in November she was treated with Alamicin LA injected into eyelid. Both eyes are the same. All seemed to clear up. However the same problem has returned. Its like a brown/red film over the eye when looking from the cows side. However from the front the cow looks just about normal. I treated the eye as new forest first time, but did think it was odd that both eyes are the same. Heifer is otherwise fine and healthy. I am going to let her calve first and then get the vet out. Just wandering if others have seen similar situation.

I might of said a while ago that I haven't had a foot trimmer here for over 18 months because of the expense, well I am having a few cows with feet issues so trying a copper foot paste on some wrapped up with a bandage. Think I might need to get a proper foot trimming crush

are her eyes looking in a bit , like she is cross eyed ?
if so it could be where the ligaments holding her eyeball in have been damaged or diseased , i have had a few like it and they all seem to have a film over their eye too , no treatment i dont think

Yes the cow heifer does look somewhat cross eyed. And there is no white spots on the eye. She also does not look to be irritated by it. But vision is deifinately impaired. A 1 lactation heifer by the look of it. But will get the vets oppinion.

View attachment 453998View attachment 454092 Brought this heifer yesterdayView attachment 454094 Heifer calf born in the night by Kirkby Malvern, cow is bred by Moet Melody. Was suprised really as had double served the cow to Malvern 12 hours after standing and then Fertilty plus blue 24 hours after standing and was 8th service

Well done on all the heifer calves you keep getting but breeding replacements out of a cow that took 8 services may have something to do with your ever growing kill list you mentioned as your breeding poor fertility
We've learnt this lesson, it does run in the family's of cows

It is probably the biggest advantage of block calving, you very quickly only breed replacements from cows on their first service although it does mean you don't always breed from your < BEST> in inverted commas, computer keypad problem, cows. Slight issue is heifers are running with Friesian bulls for 3 or 4 cycles.

She was bellowing like mad at 5am this morning but not standing(she was 1 of 2 heifers bulling chasing each other trying to mount one another) but by 12 mid day she was standing and served at 3pm:mad: she has been the same each time I've served her:banghead:

Quite a few people I've spoken to recently have said they have bred too much milk out of their cows by breeding to heavily for fertility.
