Claydon TerraStar

Have just checked - it's £2033.20 for a complete reblade. I reckon we did about 2000ac with them, but then again we were needing to go through a lot of things twice to get a reasonable finish so in terms of field area prepared, it's going to be more like 1200-1400ac.

Those of you that have had a terra star for a year or two now how are you getting on with it?
Used a lot or sat in the nettles?

We use ours a lot. This year more to level off land that had been Trioed, but it did a remarkably good job of doing what we thought we'd need a power harrow to achieve. 6m wide and 1600rpm doing 18kph is some cheap output. Find that direct into unmoved ground though that if it's a bit solid it will just pluck at the soil not moving the whole surface evenly. Not what it is meant to do, but the pockmarked effect isn't ideal for a disc drill, although we find a lot better than not doing anything especially in front of spring crops.

Ours made a great job of creating some tilth, back in early August when condition s were very hard and dry.
Drilled straight into that a week later and am delighted with the rape that followed.

I think a stubble rake could do a job for us, for slugs/weed chit/straw spreading.
But not many about and lots for sale put me off.
I see what you mean James about the terra star with a disc drill, not ideal.

Straw rakes aren't really for producing a tilth, though my Claydon rake does chip the top 1/2" depending on how hard the surface is. Any later passes do a further 1/2" so it does go deeper each time. You'll need to leave it a couple of days between each pass to settle or it does bung up with lots of residue. I have a 15m version running at around 12 kph on smooth ground so decent daily outputs are possible.
