Rumours

Had to laugh at LAMMA, there was a little single rotor rake, single axle in Fendt colours. Watering down their "premium" image putting their name on that IMO!
It might have been a re sprayed, re badged version of something else or it might just have been the best small rake on the market. Does Fendt have to be all about 939's and the latest 1050? Why aren't small farms entitled to have premium kit rather than cheap or second hand stuff if they feel it offers better value for money. Fendt seem to make quite a few of the orchard type tractors which are a long way from some of the big arable tractors they produce but which are no doubt still marketed as premium tractors. The small rake may not be a big seller over here but as a brand I believe they have a very strong following in Germany, it may have been put on the stand not for the number of sales it would generate but as a statement that Fendt has a diverse portfolio of machinery to suit all farm sizes, not just the big boys.

It would be a rebadged Fella

It was a resprayed Fella, as all MF and Fendt grass machinery is.

Premium isn't just associated with big tractors/machinery, that's not what I was getting at. I would put the Fella towards the bottom of the pile of rakes, certainly with the single axle, far from premium in my eyes. There are other small single rotor rakes which I would regard as premium however...

I would rank Fella as one of the best, where I used to work, we had one and it made a good job, stood up to some stick, far better than the (younger) Claas we had too
Fella 880 rake here. Now 12 years old ex contractors machine bought from York scrap sale. It works well.

This is it in a nutshell, in fairness they should have thought it through better or perhaps asked all of us!

So what is a premium product/brand and how does it become one? Fendt it would seem is considered a premium brand whilst Fella is not yet not far above a couple of chaps have posted favourable comments on their Fella rakes. Meanwhile a couple of weeks ago many pages were devoted to Fendt engines going bang and costing 30k or so to replace. They sell less tractors than MF, NH or JD yet would seem to have far more engine problems, I really am confused. Is there a bit of snobbery associated with the Fendt brand which goes beyond the quality of the product and is that a global thing or just here in the UK?

I personally think it's because when people have to pay more for a product they automatically think it is better than everything else. Just my opinion on the matter

Put Fendt badge on MF combine which isn't exactly renowned for reliability, so obviously aren't fussy what they put Fendt badge on.

Very sad if it's true.... I do think though that anyone that posts a rumour and mentions individuals by name should at least have the respect to post their own name.... these aren't celebrities that get money from press and pr mentions. These are hard working normal quiet people

I've been to an odd Sumo openday at the factory. British engineering and manufacturing at its best, turning out smart kit.

Takes a bit of pulling though and is aimed primarily at larger farmers imo.

Also if true, then it shouldn't have been posted on a "Rumours" thread.
