Straw biomass burner recommendations

Marco energy.

Depends what size system you want and how much time you want to spend running it / initial set up cost

Also what straw you want to burn. Many boilers can't burn all the straws offcially

I was looking at around 200 kw at the show, but would need to go further into it to be sure of size, I was getting a lot of info thrown at me in a very short space of time, I understand that the commercial tariff is the one to go for, and that the rhi is possibly changing the tier system in or around April too,

I would want to run it on big bales, and it could be OSR, wheat or barley, I believe OSR would be the better fuel.

We could heat up to 6 residential properties a workshop and possibly even grain drying in a new store if we wanted to, but not sure about it as it would make for a very expensive system!

Very happy with Linka so far. I can so far but can see where it could be made better. What sort of size are you thinking of?

Had not heard of Linka, was looking at 200kw burners at the show and did like the look of the Glen Farrow, but wondered about the wet hinges on the door and as to how long they would last!
But really need to have someone calculate our requirements first I suppose.
Want to know who to talk to and who to avoid first.

Well you have missed the RHI tariff change now so the income from a 200kw would be tiny.

You either need to go bigger (600kw +) or ignore the tarrif all together and do what you want.

To heat 6 houses, workshop and Grainstore will cost you minimum of £300k based on an average set up I would say. If you can charge house holds for the energy then it starts to get exciting.

I hear more negative than positive comments on glen farrow, cheaper for a reason, not sure if they have the certificate for OSR but I may be wrong.

Speak to Farm Energy for some independent advice but it sounds like you have missed the boat unless you can a) charge people for the heat you Produce or b) are looking at this as a 10 yr project based on oil @ say 35p/ litre.

When you say ignore the tarrif altogether would that make any difference to the system or the cost of it other than not getting the income from the rhi?
As in would it be any different as a set up or cost of doing so, as possibly not the same regulations to adhere to!?

We had 1 hinge leak slightly in 3 years of use on our Glenfarrow, was changed when it was serviced. No worries really.

All the straws, sadly you can only burns cereal now though as they haven't got the certificate for OSR, beans or linseed

Few boilers have though, if you want. 200 kw system then f200 will beat GF and Dragon IMHO.

I looked at all 3 back in 2012 before making my decision.

F200 was the heaviest by some way which told a lot

Have you accumulated tank too ? I'm just wanting to dry grain , do you know how many kWh you are getting out of a bale of straw

You can't not.

Where abouts are you?

22,500 litre.

Round bale averages 4-550 kWh / burn after boiler but before tank.

How big is your drier? 200 kWh won't by much, can just keep mine going over night in the summer which is a 60 x 60 on floor. No chance in the winter though
