We seriously considered trading her earlier in the year but i couldnt bring myself to do it. This last couple of weeks when its never stopped working hard even with 10,000 hours on her has highlighted that she will be kept along side another tractor rather than replaced. I know id regret selling her.

I wouldn't sell a tractor that could drive upside down. I'd take it to shows and make a fortune.

Sowed some spring rye today, as a bit of an experiment. We need some rain down here, it's been a dry month or so. If anyone out there is on the Kent / Sussex border, please can you organise a cricket match / tennis / morris dancing / wedding or any other British rain dance where people stand around outside dressed in white?View attachment 501614 View attachment 501616

MF 30 drill! Everyone had these for a while, I read somewhere that they had over 60% of the market at one time.

Keep us updated with your Lentils and Rye project, I'm interested to see how you get on. :)

There's actually two of them here - there's a 4m one in the shed, with the much bigger wheels. It's hemmed in at the moment by a right load of old stuff - broken down cars etc.

Ah! Now! I was offered a 4m MF 30 today, seed only, no fert, end tow kit, big wheels, I'm told it's tidy.

What's it worth? I did not want to tell him what I thought it was worth for fear of breaking his heart!

Nice tractor but always think bubble cab looks a bit silly on 3 cyl fords...
We had a 4600. Neighbour had a 6600. Felt a lot bigger on 38 instead of 36 tyres and had dual power. However was gutless compared to 4600 didn't hang on anywhere near the same and used to throw water out when it got hot....

Yes, the bubble cab 2600 & 3600 looked awful I reckon. MF550 far better looking and radical back in 1976. Agree re the 6600 being gutless on pull away especially. When I use one now it never seems very free revving when you put your foot down either. Now the SG2 JD 2140 - that was a brilliant performer all round, although I admit the 7600 was its rival (but I have never driven a 76). The 4000 was a gutsy little tractor and handled most things the 5000 could apart from when the 5000 was fully revved and in work. I'm not sure why a short stroke wide bore made it torquey, you'd have thought it would make it worse....anyone know?

@Cowabunga had a theory about ford 4 cylinders in the 5000 to do with fuel pumps I think, something about some good and some less good. Hopefully he can remind us with his memories, I for one found it interesting.
