Which tablet to get?

i have had the iPad 3 for 5yrs and it's gone very slow and started to crash quite often so it's time to replace it.

I am looking at the iPads but not sure which one to go for. The iPad Air 2 is 2yrs old but is still more expensive than the latest edition. Is the pro worth the extra money as it is mainly for browsing the Internet.
Or is it worth considering moving to a Samsung.

I have got an iPhone 6 so I like the idea of having the same but phone is up for renewal soon so could be tempted to move to Samsung.

Would like to hear other people's thoughts or opinions.

Cheers

iPad Air works for me and my SE iPhone.
People say all sorts of stuff about being a sheep, following the masses, buying into Apple etc but the fact is they work and they are easy to use. Not perfect and nor is anything else but I am happy enough to stick with it.
At the end of the day you pays your money and make your choice.

The iPad isn't worn out, so probably some simple deletion of files or cashes or a reset might bring its performance back to normal.
My daughter has an iPad2 and she uses it a lot, both for internet, iplayer, youtube, email and a few other apps, books and games. Apple have stopped software updates for that model now, but it doesn't matter yet and probably won't for a number of years yet.
iPad1 is another matter and is probably at its 'use-by date'.

If you have an iPhone to go with it, and especially if you have a Mac as well, the all-Apple route is the way to go.

Nothing wrong with Android, but my wife has an iPad and an Android phone but she has never quite understood the phone. So a few days ago I fired up my old iPhone4S for her and linked it to her Apple account and she is as happy as a clown in custard.
I had a bit of an issue with the 4S, which is five or six years old now and had been idle for the past year, in a cupboard. It wouldn't respond to the wi-fi switch, which was greyed out. Gave it some thermal shock, first with a hair dryer then straight into the deep freeze for a few hours, which seems to have sorted it. Four days so far and the wi-fi is fine.

apple are sneaky, they install updates that slows down your machine so that you are then more inclined to replace your machine with a newer one. they do it with the phones as well

Do they? I've not noticed. All my family's iDevices work as good as new. All but the iPad2 and 4S are on IOS 10.3.1
Those two are on IOS 9 approximately. The latest available for them.

I'm not saying that they are better than Android. But Android devices apart from Google's own, tend to not to get updates. They get stuck with out of date sweeties. Where are they now? Marshmallow? or is that yesterday's 'candy'.

Which is the cheapest iPad out there that I can take to work and go on my invoicing thing called xero, then I can send a quote to a customer immediately when looking at the job?
And invoice immediately when we are on the job?
iphone is just to small to work it.
Also one I can watch MotoGP on when tractoring!

The standard current 9.7" is the cheapest and fine if you don't want to store too many large files, photos and music. Otherwise spec it or the smaller mini4 with a more useful 128Gig for maybe £100 more.
I have a 12.9" Pro which is great for the most part, but maybe if I was to choose again I would go for the smaller Pro model.

The £339 basic 32Gb version should do you well if you are not a power-user. You can probably tether it to your phone if you want to use it away from a landline wi-fi.

I've never seen the need to spend the 'premium price' for any iProducts.
I had an iPhone 3Gs but I'm fully recovered from that now ;)

You say that your iPhone6 is 'up for renewal' - do you mean it's reaching the end of it's minimum contract term.
I bought a Motorola MotoG for around £130 and pay Three £8 per month for all I need.
You could keep your phone and go sim only perhaps and maybe, as The Duck says, maybe get the iPad reset

My iPhone 4S was bought outright as have every phone in the family since. I pay about £8 per month for 500 minutes of calls, unlimited texts and 1Gb data if I remember correctly.
Phones don't magically stop working when the initial contract runs out. The contract can be changed to a sim-only or a PAYG sim can be fitted or monthly plans can be bought from such as Giff-Gaff or most other providers.
Existing number can be ported to new sim from any service provider with no bother at all. Well hardly any bother.

I have absolutely no intension of paying £45/month for two years. Nearly £1100 every two years. If you have a perfectly good existing iPhone out of contract, even if you pay £12/month for a contract, you will save £800, which will be enough for a his and hers new iPad, or the rent.

Remember that all such expenditure for the business qualifies for VAT refund plus 100% tax relief which substantially reduces the financial burden.

Remembering though that IF you bought your iPhone on a contract, then it will probably be locked to the network that provided it to you and the easiest/cheapest/most legal way of unlocking it, is to ask that network to unlock it for you before you leave them.

You don't have to leave your existing network of course. You could simply ask them to give the best sim-only deal they've got that suits you. Tell them that you are on the verge of going elsewhere. With conviction. That will get you to their 'retentions' department.

Not quite correct, but close. Software is developed and optimised to run on latest hardware, run it on an old machine and it will be slow.

Looks the same as a 5S performs the same as a 6S.
Didn't like the size of the 6S which is why I didn't go that route.
Very pleased indeed with it. It replaced a 5S and it is very much better, performance allround is very good. Even the reception, will find 4G in places my 5S only ever got 3G.
