Has she been on light work?

It did some ballast rolling last year and has been spitting oil since that....people keep telling me to give it hard work for a few days but I'm worried about buggering the engine up more.....?

If everything is ok give it some hard work I think it's glazed up.
Before 2013 it had been sat in a shed for 20 years.....I got it out and got it running and had a link box on it for about 12 months and she was fine.....then went and did this rolling and she has been doing it ever since ? So you think if I give it a hard working for a while it will fix it ?

Check the valve stem seals bet they have gone
Is it a big job to check/replace those ?

Take the rocker cover off and look if they are worn.

But i would put a trailer on with a decent load and go for a run up the road with a hill or 2 make it work pulling it down underload we get this alot with the old tractors
Just make sure water in plenty of oil if like tar change it make sure fan belt aint going to snap also check rad clear before your run out

Stick her on a slurry pump for half a day.
Keep half an eye on the oil pressure and water temp, give her hell.
This is mine, I put 2 hours running on it after fitting new pistons and liners and then gave it half a day of hell on the harrows.
Got her bedded in!

Loose exhaust manifold, you didn't notice the oil when it was tight?
Exhaust valve stems don't usually have seals fitted, if it was inlet valve stems leaking, you would expect the oil to get burnt.
Might have a bit of wear on the exhaust valve stems/guides, though, but check the manifold bolts/gaskets first.

On that engine all valves had seals from new

If you have a load of oil spitting out its highly likely you have oil leaking past the piston rings.
- Get a compression test done.
-Check & change valves, lap them in.
-Visually check the cylinder walls. If you have scoring or signs of oil your piston rings will likely need replacing. The liners may also need refinishing.
These old tractors you literally only need a couple of spanners to take the entire tractor apart.

Someone needs to start selling tractor coloured oil for old ones so you don't notice all the leaks

I think if you engine oil goes black really quick its a sign combustion is leaking past the
I had an oil leak on our UTB/Universal 550 which turned out to be the head gasket.... One thing led to another and a day later....Someone needs to start selling tractor coloured oil for old ones so you don't notice all the leaks

The first sigh of piston ring fault will be oil coming out of the front breather. Is it rely black oil it could be injectors hard work could help. Check the breather pipe from the rocker cover to the air cleaner if it is a mk2 engine or it could be a mk1 engine and it goes to the inlet manifold is not blocked as that can course back pressure dont just check the pipe but also both ends as well. also make shore the little pipe on the air cleaner is not loose as that also can a problem
