What's classed as good condition?

Any creases in the sides / slight bends / any rot?

I paid £1,200 for a very clean ( paint still on inside of body etc) 4 ton. I also paid £700 for a 4 ton that was straight but had been re painted.

From memory the beds are made from many 'C' sections welded together so difficult to repair. A 10' x 5' steel sheet bolted to the remains would work for livery muck. I'd probably wax in between though else the rust would just accelerate!

Slap some ply over or similar if it's just for a livery yard?

Its gone beyond that:eek: I bodged it up during haymaking to get through the summer, need a full replacement bed now, just wondered if any of the farm workshop experts fancied a winter project? Just need a flat bed built from scratch, with the slots for the posts, I would sort the sides, thats within my welding skills:)

I rebuilt my 5 ton trailer which was an enjoyable task. I bought an inverter welder for the job. I used 6" 'C' section RSJ's for the rear & 3" for the sides. The actual body was ok but getting the original rusty floor off the outriggers isn't a job to be recommended with many skin burns from the gas axe! I went for 5mm floor.
Yes a totally new floor would be great, you could recess the lights plus bring them up to modern spec with side markers & use LED units. Plus allow for hay bolsters & other add-ons.

Dread to think what a new equivalent trailer would cost, presumably some one makes one , but must be a very a small market for new ones.

Dad spoke to Triffit not so long ago and they were saying the market is really good for the smaller trailers

Think they were around £4,000.
