Are they trying to let it to an existing tenant? Someone was saying its the first farm the estates let in 20 years or so?

Yes first farm to become available in well over 20 yrs.

No, as far as I'm aware there is no plans for to to be let to a existing tenant on a nt farm already.
3 of the tenants have been grazing it for a few years while it's been vacant

So many restrictions to me now I am older and wiser I would think renting this farm would be too stressful...but I expect some youngsters will jump at the chance but enthusiasm here could be very dangerous

I suppose you can look at them as restriction or you can look at it as the framework to build your farm on. I think if you went into the tender pitching a ridiculous rent then you're in for stress but it could be a great home and business with the right attitude

More likely to give to an incomer that way they can put aside local predudices and influences and get a clean canvas to work with. Rightly or wrongly the modern NT wishes to do some "experimental" stuff with its land management so my guess is 25-40 year old couple from at least 50 miles away with very open minds.

How big was the place?
We went for a duchy farm last year, got on the shortlist and interview etc. Then they just gave it to an existing duchy tenant anyway, used us to set his rent!

Had the same on a NT trust place in Buckinghamshire once. The outgoing tenant wasn't going to have it whatever happened, as he'd ploughed up their precious chalk downland pp  (reinstating it was in the FBT particulars). I hear later that he'd got it anyway.

I'm glad I hadn't wasted time putting a tender in, as we walked away after meeting the guys in charge at NT on the viewing day. There was no way I was going to be able to work with those ar*eholes, whatever the agreement. I was very good though:angelic:, I held my tongue until I got back to the car. Waste of a good day.

Didn't ever get an interview. Wonder why we bother
What makes you think YOU should get an interview, I take it there were other would be tenants, are they not entitled to an equal chance? may be they were more suitable than you. If you wonder why you bother, I wonder if its really for YOU(perhaps the landlords agent got your vibes)

The boot will be on the other foot after brexit, the agents that still have a job will be begging you to farm it, with a rent free period, low rent, long tenancy, house done up etc etc
Rollocks. This isn't the 1920's.......with a batwing topper and a big tractor, a LL can keep his land in good condition topping it twice a year. If he can't do that, he ain't fit to own it anyway.
Surely better that giving it away for 200 years......:)
