Other have has a 2.2 Ranger on a 65 plate, Has done 72k had numerous recalls. brought it into workshop the other week to check oil level as oil light was coming on. Only just showing on dipstick. Always been serviced by for ford garage on time. Said to them that it seems to be burning alot of oil, was told that it will use 500ml for every 1000 miles driven!? Was driving it the other day and noticed a lot of blue smoke coming out of it! We run 8 L200's out of our workshop and none of them use anywhere near that amount of oil. Obviously not doing the same mileage.

Not Anthony Motors but WR Davies in Newtown I believe. Was 4K cheaper to buy there though I must say my friend what's very underwhelmed by the after sales service and customer care aspect. He was even more unimpressed with Anthony Motors salesmen though. Basically they didn't try and I must admit that's been my impression of them too.
W R Davies is no longer there selling and servicing Ford. I think they have retreated over the border from Newtown with Nissan and Toyota dealerships and maybe still with a location or two with Ford in North Wales. Sounds like they are no great loss, at least when it comes to pickups.

I think the ford dealership is still in Newtown, pretty sure I drove past a couple of weeks ago. It may not be a WR Davies branch anymore though

The premises are now run by a company by the name of Greenhous [no 'e'], still with Ford I think, although I've only glanced while passing a couple of times.

The name suggests they should be growing and selling tomatoes, not cars, but only after going to spelling classes.

Fair point but in this day and age oil pump design is hardly new.
You're right, I remember similar issues with the oil pump drive on the Ford V6 fitted to Granadas in the eighties. The hexagonal drive shaft used to round off, then the pump stopped!
Talk about 'for the price of a nail the battle was lost', you've got a 5 grand engine and they skimp on a £50 oil pump!

So to sum up,

The Ranger oil pumps pack in and costs a bomb to fix, plus Ford dealers are poor.

The Nissan is ok if you can put up with coil springs towing, but with crap chassis, and the new one isn't proven to be rubbish yet but there's lots of holes that may be troublesome eventually.

The old 2.5 Isuzu is plagued by DPF regen issues and diesel in the sump. The new 1.9 Isuzu is gutless according to reports.

The Hilux is living off it's previous fame and now has a smaller gutless engine too.

The VW is nice to drive but given the price it should be, 2.0 engine is lacklustre the new V6 is better but heavy.

And the Chinese one the Great Wall nobody wants to be seen dead in as it's not cool!

Would that be about it? or have I missed something?
