I know it's an old thread but, I am getting a lot of stalling depth wheels, the discs are about 250 acres old and building packed mud against the disc and depth wheel and back of depth wheel (gauge wheel) especially behind the tractor wheels (cant show pic as dropped iphone in the field yesterday) the gap is about 3- 5mm every now and again having to clear the discs wheels with a screwdriver, i have dust coming up behind the drill and would say conditions not far off nearly good to good, we are rolling behind slot closing fairly well, i wondered whether better to get a set of spoked wheels, are there different options and do other manufacturers make them to fit, or is it a waste of time and carry on and stop moaning.
Regards Big Al
If your gap between the disc and gauge wheel is between 3 and 5 mm then it's too wide, technically it should be 3 but you could go less than that if required. If it's really wet you can go tight enough so that the gauge wheel lip just wipes the disc, however you'd need to space them back out again in drier conditions otherwise you'll damage the lip on the tyre. You obviously weren't paying attention in your class!
