CCTV camera system advice please

Hi I am putting together a CCTV system for work.

The cameras will not be monitored just used for reference if necessary and will be high value site.

I need 5 fixed bullet outdoor cameras, 4-5mb

Also need 9 fixed dome cameras internally, 3-5mb.

I think an ip system is indicated.

Budget is £1.5k

Hoping someone can help suggest what cameras are a good buy at the moment and what system (recorder that can handle 14 cameras, screen, cables) we would need around this to be practical?

We use cheap Foscam ptz cameras internally. They're about £50 and I think are often sold as baby monitors. Not great but they are good enough for our farrowing sheds.

Externally we use Axis cameras but it think these would blow your budget although you do get what you pay for. Externally i would avoid IR built into the camera as these quickly get covered in spiders webs.

POE makes wiring up much easier.

I think the main problem is going to be finding a way of recording from the cameras within your budget. Again we use a qnap device which is good but I think for the money try finding an old pc or buying a reconditioned one and putting recording software on it.

There is at least 1 company on here doing this sort of thing so hopefully they will be able to offer more advice.

Thanks for the reply Davey!

After reading your post I think we will extend the budget for a better system. Hikvision cameras seem good and can source 5 5mp bullet cameras and 9 3mp dome cameras for £1.4k

Can anyone recommend a 14+ channel poe enabled recorder to run this setup?

If we dont want it on the internet do we still need a router?

Thanks!

What length of recording are you hoping for? 14 cameras recording would chew up a HUGE amount of drive space I would expect. I don't know a huge amount about it by any means, but I'd also think that writing that data to a single drive at the same time (i.e.14 live feeds) would be quite a big ask....but might be totally wrong.

Thanks for the tag but unfortunately it is probably not one for us, it sounds like @edwin42 already has quite a good handle on what to do but I think the budget may come up a bit short.

With this size system you really need to be looking at around 300-500/camera to get anything decent that will last, especially if there is wireless involved and you want to be able to record it all. The indoor cameras will certainly be cheaper to do then the outdoor ones.

Our speciality is calving and lambing cameras and outdoor wireless farm cctv: www.agricamera.co.uk :)

We have upped our budget and decided on hikvision cameras with POE install and 6TB drive. Apparently the cameras use compressed data so this will last a month. Thanks for the comments and help!

14+ network cams and decent red and frame rate will need some storage! 24/7 record or event only? £100 per camera isn't enough to cover PoE switch (needs decent through put) drives (need raid?) and cameras look at techwin (Samsung) lite range and Dahua but pushing budget £30 per camera is entry level trade fixed view over hdcvi or composite IP is over £60 IIRC
