Growing grass Gross Margin

I’ve been asked to drill some grass for a local chap. He wants me to plant fertilise and spray and he will cut the grass and take the crop for either hay or haylage. What kind of GM am I likely to see? Could be useful as I shall be taking out some smaller awkward fields.

seed £60+per acre, Lime?, fertiliser? depends on soil analysis but could be around £50 per cut.
Cutlivations to establish the grass?
We did this costing on monday and got full costs of around £400 per year for 6 year grass ley.
This covered cultivation, lime, fertiliser, spray, seed, rolling and picking stones, applying fertiliser between each of three cuts. no harvestng costs included.

How much did you calculate on variable costs alone per ha?

What about putting a red clover/grass ley in? Bagged N is one of the main costs to a cutting ley if you don’t have slurry to go back on plus you’ll get better summer quality and growth with red clover in a dry area. We put in 80ac as a trial 18 months ago and so far much prefer it to an Italian cutting ley.
