friend has 2 macrete stores only a few years old that have cracked every panel and are leaking. they are big about 1 million gallon each. I suggested standing a long long distance away from them. have you heard something similar?

cant be normal to have a liquid storage tank crack and leak. haven't heard the outcome but I cant see how they can be repaired. I think they will have to be demolished. extremely unsafe. how are the manufacturers dealing with the ones you heard about and what make are they?

that's the most pathetic response ive ever heard:rolleyes:. these manufacturers supply something to do a simple job and instead they construct a bomb that's likely to explode and destroy/kill everything in its path and the best solution they can come up with is paint over the cracks. what a joke. they need to be made to offer full refunds and remove the damaged structures off site before someone gets hurt

Sadly, bulk storage is a very complicated matter, and just for the record, I have only my own experience to help me understand. When you fill ANY silo or tank, it stretches because of the contents. Concrete, is weak in tension, so is not able to accomodate this stretching, so concrete stores should always be over designed, with some sort of pre-tensioning mechanism, more than capable of resisting the stretching pressure of the contents. Concrete is very strong in compresssion, so this pre-tension can be, and needs to be, very high. If not enough additional tension is included in the structure, concrete being low in tensile strength, cracks.

Has anyone had problems with new concrete towers cracking and weeping?
dude, seriously!!
get on the email(paper trail) to the lot who supplied and erected you with what is now little more then a disaster waiting to happen and if they won't make good, threaten them with reporting to everyone from trading standards to the pope.
as long as you adhered to any curing time for panels/footing concrete works or any other 'get outs' laid out in small print
