What do you do when a Pikey drives on the yard?

I am always polite, and say a firm "no", and that all our scrap / batteries etc are taken to local recycling place for waste transfer ticket and we are happy with the arrangement. In reality, I want them gone as more often they are not after anything - just having a snoop about. Memorise plate, and add it to the list.
If they see you write down their no. they will kick off or retaliate later some how , had one put a curse on me when he tried to extort £200 and I stood my ground

My access road is about 300 yards long and my dogs kick off as soon as a car comes off the tarmac. They always get a lot of praise for that.

For some reason, I don't get many unwelcome visitors. Nut if they do venture down, I always ask them if they want to earn a few easy £s helping with dog training. No volunteers yet.

Taken many a picture of number plates etc with the phone. Always handy and takes brilliant pictures. Had an official turn up once asking intrusive questions but he had no identification on him except plastic dog tag and was driving private car with no official markings. Always suspicious, I made him hold out his identity dog tag and took a picture of that! He was not a happy man! but did checkout ok.

Not pleased with his photo......

What kind of official?? Seems very odd, didnt he reveal his own identity???

I knew a lad who had an old Gypsy woman come to his door selling pegs or lucky heather or whatever. Anyway he gave her short shrift, and effectively b**gered her off. She started muttering a curse at him to which he replied " Yer too feckin late, missus, I already put one on you!":). Mind you, he did drop dead with a heart attack in his late forties!!!! :eek::eek:

Don't come to us much but the last one came in the yard blowing his horn, I went out and told him to f**k off and stop being so rude (along with a few other choice words), if he wants to speak to someone knock on the door and walked away. He followed ( still in the van) and apologised for blowing his horn and claimed he was afraid of the dogs that were barking at him even though none had gone to his van as they were all kenneled away. Never been back since!

I'm generally cordial to them but on 2 occasions I was in a right mood. Once I was shooting endless amounts of crows out of spring barley and I arrived back into the yard to see a brand new D-max with 2 of them in it. Gun under me arm over I go and say well lads what ye after?. "Oh nothing sir, just wondering if you want the sheds painted?". Naw says I and I'm in no mood to haggle. They left straight away :). The 2nd time I was getting nothing but hardship at hay and in came a bucko in his pickup and drove right past me into the yard. I don't think I used any of the steps getting out of the tractor and headed in after yer man. "Just looking for the boss man says he". "Thats me I say and you came in that avenue at about 20 mph and you can F back out it at 40 or faster, I'm going in and you better be gone when I come back out". I never said what I was going in for (cup of tea) but the pickup barely hit the avenue he went out so fast what ever he was thinking haha.

Although its in theory rubbish , it certainly stressed me as I knew you cant beat them , it certainly had an effect if only in the mind , farming especially with stock spread out you are extremely defenseless . His father was an old fashioned type gypo , who I was ok with and always spoke to, I said to him you do what you do and I do what I do and we have been ok for a long time can we keep it like that ? and he agreed and sorted the boy out ( they dont mess around with their own )

To be honest this is what most folk should do, it need not be hugely expensive to do, either.

Makes a lot more sense to keep them out in the first place rather than install cctv so you can watch how you were robbed and then pass footage to the police (if / when) they turn up so they can take no notice of it and tell you how it’s no use for prosecution etc !

We have good cctv coverage as well but it’s a waste of time and money really compared to decent gates

Automating gates was cheaper than a decent cctv system as well

What’s the idea behind recording number plates ? Do you think these people actualy register, tax or insure ? ! :ROFLMAO:
