Is handling now permitted?

It would seem so! The judges seminar at North Petherton has, as the world style "clockwork mice", One top ploughman, and no less than two of the top handlers! Will points now be awarded for fingerprints of the correct type and spacing?

It is certainly an addiction and as one handler confessed, to stop is worse than giving up smoking. It is yet another fudge by the unthinking and uncaring SOP because their whole organisation is based on corruption and their inability to keep their hands off anything that gives them pleasure. The sooner everyone realises that the better.

As far as I know, the "clockwork mice" are not chosen by the SOP, its done by the local organisers. The same organisers who spout about penalty points and who are supposed to provide stewards, and act on the stewards reports, not ignore them because " if we dock him points he wont come next year"! What they are really saying is, we wont get his entry fee next year.
A certain way to stop handling would be to reject entries from known offenders! Giving them encouragement by inviting them to "parade their wares" in front of a class of trainee judges is not on! They should be told, "we dont want cheats on our patch, EVER.

Hi I am not up on the gardening thing as here we are not allowed to handle any of our plowing . But it seems as we the plowmen police that aspect ourselves, if we see it being done you get told about it in no uncertain terms, could you not have a award at the end that no one would like to receive . like the plastic fork award for best gardening . with results being posted in local papers or on the internet mike

We have almost reached the situation where the gardening is more important than the ploughing and our international standing is going down the drain.

I wish I could say the same, but normally, the reverse is the norm, same with ploughing to a shallow stipulated depth, you can guarantee the over depth work will win.

Can we name and shame these offenders? If the organisers and stewards choose to turn a blind eye, could we not get the punters involved with all their cameras? If they were made aware of an offence being committed we could have a huge CCTV Crimestopper network on the field if I were allowed to put a sign on my plot. I have seen some idiot townies in flip-flops on the muddy headland, bound to have a phone with a camera so the answer is is our hands. The public (vox) would be empowered and the sport would be cleaner.

Mike that's the best idea I have ever seen posted on here! It's simple one cheep tacky cup awarded to the offender at the end, with plenty of boos and heckling would soon stamp it out :sneaky:(y)

You would think so, but it wont! One of the worst from Yorkshire, was given a trowel and fork, and revelling in the notoriety, posed for photos!
What would work is no warnings, other than the rules, no high viz for the stewards, keep them unidentified and award massive points deductions, coupled with the no acceptance of transgressors entries in future years.
One thing that inhibits stewarding is the need to confront people, take that away, and you would find stewards easier to press gang!

What constitutes handling?
Is it something as simple as picking the odd bit of stubble off the top? Or are we talking about physical manipulation of the furrows by hand and feet, and of course the headland shuffle.
I watched a you tube video some time back of an Irish match and could not believe what I was seeing. A boy on a tractor setting his ridge and probably his father kicking and shaping the furrow every two or three feet. It was so blatant it made me feel sick and annoyed, but no one batted an eyelid. Makes the plough seem pointless, a fork and spade would be more use.

Cricket bat and a smack up the the side of the ear hole should do the trick for all offenders

I think we are all guilty of a bit of shuffling and picking although I leave my headlands alone now apart from my opening , a well known judge who judges in our area Allan and is highly respected told me he knocks off points if he sees any headland interference, one of two really good judges in our area and we'll worth listening to his advice, pitty the SOP fell out with him rather than listen to his expert advice :scratchhead:

He was then appointed head coach to our Euro vintage team by the SOP. This was not lost on a lot of people and demonstrates their complicity with rule breaking and cheating.
