'Current subsidies are funding in-efficient farming' - Micheal Gove (Chat away)

Somewhat of an insult surely.....

It would be a diabolical insult if it wasn't (at least in part) true.
Are you trying to say that a proportion of (frankly) sh!t farmers using outdated practices aren't being maintained as 'Zombie Businesses' by the SFP?

It would also be 'better form' if the OP's on these politician bashing / brexit bashing threads would quote a source and a link to the original text / article, as it would give a bit of context to whatever phrase has 'offended' the OP.

Because it's correct. Subsidy breeds inefficiencies imo.
So scrap subsidies and the inefficient will wither away.
Be interesting to see how many can survive and make realistic profits on world markets.

30 years ago a guy I knew in haulage used to say "you have to have the hard times to get rid of the opposition" I'm sure he didn't think when he said it that one day he'd be part of that opposition.
I wonder how many who think they're efficient won't last.

Perhaps he’s suggesting subsidies are themselves inefficient? Some farmers might spend it on a holiday or build a swimming pool which is not supporting ag.
I agree with the fact that subsidies as a whole can make businesses/industries less efficient but please dont put down the farmers that have the nouse to run a successful business and still have the ability to go on holiday god forbid! Its not illegal to make money you know.....even though it appears some in this industry are unable to.

I reckon this might have been covered in a few other threads :). Ignore my last sentence then and try again.

Wouldn't believe a word he says. Comes across as a slimy little toad and he showed his true colours in the leadership election. Did he actually believe he could act as he did and that MPs would vote for him? Deluded man.

Spot on.
I said on here a couple of years ago that the man oozes incincerity.
Slimy little toad probably more apt given his actions since.

Countless threads on here about what he's said about this and about that the past couple of months but can you believe a word of it at this stage?

Certainly wouldn't be basing any long term business decisions based on anything from him just yet that's for sure.

The most worrying aspect of the broad assumptions he's been making in recent weeks is that it is increasingly obvious what lobby groups have his ear and it certainly isn't any farmer led ones.

The majority of politicians are pretty useless, most of what they do bring very few benefits to the people they are supposed to be serving.

Also, while most farmers try hard to do better and increase efficiency there are also a load who do very little, are pretty crap farmers and have a fairly easy life living off the subsidies.

It would be better for younger entrants if these left the industry.
