another fan/want a new 5cyl here!

most balanced engine is an odd number but 9 is terrible as it is like 3 3cyls, a 4 or 6 cyl is not quite as good as you have 2 pistons in each position.

agree that 5cyl crank might be hard to balance but they should be the best engine 5cyl 300hp! loader tractors "the new pocket rocket"

Fendt are using a seven cylinder engine. Not sure whether that is as easy to balance as they [Sisu or AGCOpower or whatever they call themselves this week] thought though.

7 is better again than 3 or 5 as each is at an angle of 102.857 degrees so each individual whereas a 6 cyl is at an angle of 120degrees so: 120, 240,360 then 120, 240, 360 again so not as uniformly spaced

Why is there no vr6 diesel engine avaiable? It would be no longer than a 4 pot but with the power of a 6 pot.

saw a 590 with a V8 in used for scraping out and tractor pulling, even went up and down the multi power on the pull

Power of a 6 pot what? A VW Golf? Hardly a good engine to install in a tractor.
Why not a W12 if we are doing silly configurations ? The length of a four cylinder with the power of a twelve.

Yes, VW/Audi (VAG) gave up on rotary after the NSU RO80
But Mazda are still using the same basic unit ...........

They stopped making the RX8 about five years ago and probably stopped the rotary engine manufacture at around the same time. Its high fuel and lubricating oil consumption probably made it difficult if not impossible to meet tightening emission regulations.

That's a pity as they were the only manufacturer that I know of, using rotary.
It was a good design, if and when you got it started.

is the basic point about cubic capacity of the engine not really about the number of cylinders?
hence Kubota 4 cylinder 6.1litre similar characteristics to other 6 cylinder 6 litre engines.
just most manufacturers have same piston size but have 4 and 6 cylinder engines with for example 4.4 litre or 6.6litres respectively.

I had an RX8 once upon a time, great little car, lithe, good handling, an engine the size of a shoebox, revs a plenty....but you only made the mistake of moving it/switching the engine off cold once..ok maybe twice

Definitely not their finest hour. Sent back at the docks, then a host of recalls. Maybe it was the unlucky 7!
