Your in the exact same position as me silage wise and it should count for something having plenty just sold 70 bales aswell. Had that bad load of blend in January so still stepping parlour cake down which by next months visit should be nearer 9 pence as opposed 10 pence. If I could shave £20/30 of parlour cake it’d squeeze that bit more. 12 me silage and maize land I’d be £££
Maize and all the likes isn't the be all and end all either, 50 acre of whole crop has lasted 3 months, albeit a bit of a nightmare summer. We aren't growing whole crop next year and only having grass silage. Sure it counts for something it must cost a fortune and effort hauling silage! Don't get down about your silage, we haven't got the best stuff nothing you can do about it and you know for a fact a lot of folk have got bad stuff this year! Try NWF, they are very competitively priced for good feed?

9ppl for total or just bought in?
I’ve just moved off 2nd cut to 4th and went up 3kg of milk and dropped feed cost 1ppl
I now have the view good silage is the be all and end all,

Yeah bought in as opposed to a similar farmer who’s doing just over 7 and it’s his silage smashing mine. Totally agree about silage now getting 42kg per head into them it’s just convincing older gen that it’s the mainstay here so drives everything. Looks like I’m a bit dear on parlour cake aswell but always want to feed top spec in there.

Not many people will disagree with you there! Was it the poor 2nd cut or really really really good fourth cut that made the difference ?!?

I wouldn't listen to a lot of people on here @coomoo ! If you listened to everyone you'd end up a crackpot!!!

Obviously not getting a keyboard war but you can't say my cake is 30£ too expensive at 210£ and not state the price of your own cake. Not currently accepting that as an honest arguement!

My cake is 20% so not really comparable, more comparable to the blend but it makes that look £50 too expensive when you take the cost of cubing and blowing a nut? Also I'm taking full loads twice a month, so up to £8 quantity discount. So to give a price is not necessarily productive.

If your bought in feed is 9ppl what's your overall cost per liter? And what are you buying in?
