Stripper Headers

possibly looking at sharing a 12m stripper header with a neighbour to combine oats and barley. From what I can remember with previous threads a few years ago it was a struggle to keep the combine full. This header will either go on a lexicon 780 or whatever the number is for the biggest John Deere which is a combine I know nothing about.Any thoughts? Will machine would be better to put it on? Are we barking up the wrong tree? Do we need a small old combine to put it on (early 750?). All thoughts appreciated.

Could not drive fast enough with a 28ft (biggest at the time) on a 600tt Which lead to a poor sample even with machine set up tight

Think wider is available now and they may have improved to reduce losses

Losses were to high on cereals, we got rid, it was a mistake I have put down to experience ! magic in peas or linseed though

This would be a 42ft on most probably a John Deere of similar size to a 600. We are growing a lot of spring oats and spring barley now, have heard some good things about them in those crops.

Wotth a try, output is phenomenal and they deal well with flat or difficult to harvest crops

Make sure they have contour now, the one on our 600 didn’t so combined with the speed made it very hard work for the driver !

If the problem is filling the combine then a narrow bodied combine would be the solution lower cost per acre
The high horse power combines need the power for the amount of straw that needs to be chopped stripper negates this so 150 hp less needed
Tracks for stability at speed a must
I have combined linseed and beans with a 9 m conventional header at 14 to 18 kmph

Drove one in the states. 30ft on jd rotary. Output is brilliant, setting up is an art. Best on your lexion as you want a tight threshing area. Drum wants to be tight, as it will be harder to thresh with no straw in the mix to thresh against. Watch out for rocks as the teeth are easy to bend. I recon it would go well in oats or barley in the uk, but wheat is to short and stiff over here I’d say. Check the weight of it too as you might want bigger lift rams as they weigh a lot.
