Salary pay

I've been offered a job, which will be on a salary (haven't discussed salary yet) but I was wondering what people out there do/offer as a salary and what sort of money/arrangement I should be looking for.
The job is on a 250 (ish) dairy herd, rearing all our own youngstock. My responsibilities would be the herd management with every day chores with that, (I don't AI or foot trim yet, but will be responsible for drafting them out) calf rearing and health ECT, managing the grazing platform and measuring grass and general herd duties. With the general work around the farm as well. Unfortunately there is no option of a house with the job at this point so I was wondering what you guys think would be a good deal for a salary pay on this job? I am confident my employer will be reasonable with the offer but I have no idea what I'm supposed to be looking for / what is reasonable Thanks!

For a salary I’d start with
8 hours a day
6 days week
So that’s 48h
50 weeks a year = 2400h
Management role at least £12 an hour
= £28,800
That’s a start point, adjust according to level of responsibility and additional hours (Sunday’s/overtime)

Doing all that, you'll be very busy. Be careful what you agree to take on, if you start spreading yourself too thin and things start to suffer or underperform the finger will be pointed directly at you- make no mistake about that. It then becomes a self fulfilling prophecy and all of a sudden you're the worst thing ever to grace the farm gate in spite of only ever wanting to do your absolute best. Sounds a negative approach and attitude I know, but I've seen it happen more than once.

I have 2 guys on salary doing similar work but more cows. Without a house I would suggest north of £30k. Get the small print sorted, time off, how much holiday. Do they have sickness cover if you are off. Looks like you may need some ai training, suggest doing that soon.

Start as you mean to go on and don’t milk in the afternoons unless it’s your weekend to work. I scrape at night mon-thurs and off fri pm and have a lot more time to do the fiddly things now

Thanks, the employer is happy to support me in any courses and training that will benefit the farm and the business, I'm hoping I can get training in before we start AI on the spring herd but could be tight time wise!

Yeah, the plan is only 3 or 4 mornings a weeks and the afternoons would be down to me, for the first 6 months at least as the boss will be working on another project,

Appreciate everyone's opinion, I'm sure the boss will be fair to me, it's just hard for me to compare, I've been self employed for 2 years, and the full time job I had before that really took the Mick, I went from getting paid peanuts weekly for 60+ hours to being promised a good salary, that ended up 13,500 a year and I was told to work 37.5 hours a week and no more because they wouldn't pay overtime! They've destroyed my trust in employers considering I was 19, and had spent 3 years working my arse off for them managing all the stock of sheep, pigs and cows! Also made me turn to dairy which was the best decision of my life!

It just goes to show there are different types of employer. I know I am far from perfect but the one thing I have learnt from paying a salary is that both parties need to want the system to work. I don’t get hung up on hours worked. My 2 guys work a basic day of 2 milkings with breakfast and lunch breaks. Today is a Saturday and I know full well that they will finish half an hour earlier than in the week, some of the non essential jobs that are done in the week probably won’t get done. But as long as these get done sometime I don’t mind. I do know that if we are busy and they have to work on they will.
