Older machines that had a high pivot point are much less stable than newer tyres which have a much lower pivot point. I bought a older manitou for a building site I had and it was a bit dodgy on any slope with the boom up
I take your point but the JCB with reasonably wide front axle and big tyres seemed more stable than some.

My tips: go for a 4 wheel steer (or a pivot) 2ws is a major step backwards

I can heartily recommend Jcb 525-67... ours has done us well...

Or a cat th62.. much more stable than a Jcb and can be better value for money... built like a brick outhouse too !!
