Sanderson 622 fuel problems

hi guys my friend has a old 622 when he bought it the guy before had fitted a bulb primer like a boat on the main fuel pump and a check valve, anyway the bulb perished so we fitted new fuel pipe and binned it and the check valve apart from a struggle to get fuel to prime to the filters all was well for most of the time apart from the fuel running back occasionally and sometimes cutting out. So recently we had the transmission out for a refurb so took tank off and cleaned it out, tonight we got tank back on and fitted a new lift pump went to bleed it and can’t get the pump to lift the fuel you can blow back to tank no probs and use airline to pressurise tank to get diesel up to filter but primer still won’t work. Did these forklifts have issues ever with lifting the fuel up from the tank? Half thinking of a wee 12v pump

I assume it is a Ford engine?
I think the lift pump set up was different on different eras of engines with perhaps three types of main pumps over the years.
Are you sure there is not some air being drawn somewhere. Is there a fuel fed start heater for example?

Yes ford engine with in-line pump. Can’t mind is there a heater plug fitted air leak would need to be between the fuel tank and lift pump but can’t see where it all seems fine

Is elbow in fuel line clear (above tank and under one piece mudguards) not sure it is the problem but they always block in spite of 'airline' clearing

My SB 65 has an electric lift pump. Many, many pipes & joints, all need checking nown again. Slightest leak draws in air, and won't start in the morning.
Daft plastic filter in the tank too, which clogs up easily.

Silly question what's a sb 65 silly fuel tank on this you can tank suction pipe out or see it as there is a bulkhead in tank so maybe pipe is rusty. Going to try out of a jug after tea see will it suck out of it

Off topic but does anyone know if the later 726 suffered from fraying ram seals clogging the suction filter or had they updated to better materials?

Electric pumps are so cheap that I fit them to any machine that has a whiff of a problem. Put them as near the tank as possible and leave the old lift pump Insitu. Solved loads of problems for about £15.00. of that doesn't work get a submersible.
We ended up fitting a electric pump seemed fine parked on flat but left it pointing down hill over night and fuel ran back. Sorted now

Surprised as most electronic pumps are one way only. When I fitted one to my 247 I eventually took the old lift pump out of the loop and that cured the problem. Don't usually do that but was still sometimes was cavitating.

Yes, suffered also. Bought one several years ago, been stood a bit. After a day carting bales, next day, hardly lift. Was bunged suction filter. Managed to change filter, but put new one on hand tight. The next time, managed to change without draining oil with a dextrous arm and a vet inspection glove! Gone now, but great machine. Well ahead of competition in their day...

Sorry my writing was confusing we fitted a new mechanical lift pump and though it was fine but wasn't so then we fitted the electric one and it's sorted now
