North West Air Ambulance

Hello all

Living on farms in rural areas any accident we have we’re likely to need an air ambulance to get us to A+E so my mothers doing a sky dive to try to raise money for our northwest air ambulance.

As you may know I had an accident last month and I myself was airlifted in to A+E and still can’t belive the speed it all happens in. The day I was taken was the 3rd job of the day for the helicopter crew and while I was in A+E they brought another stuntman in. As a charity all this is paid for by donations so if anyone’s a few coppers to donate please do so by the link below

Good cause that!! Hats off to her for doing a "controlled fall" after your accident to raise much needed funds...and to you for raising awareness too!!

Watched "Emergency Helicopter Medics" on tv last night for the first time - admire the work they do!

Surprises me that many hospitals have helipads, despite all AA's being charities and not part of NHS.

Just read the JG page - seems this wasn't even influenced by your accident at all.

Not that it matters, if anything I admire her even more for deciding to without even having a reason....

I’ve been winding her up saying look how bad I am after a 25’ fall, imagine what her fall will do

Yes she does a fundraiser every year in October for Cancer research, raises about 4/5k usually and dad said we should do something for air ambulance cause we know about 10 people who have used it, so she booked it last August. I simply decided to advertise it for her

Had a small fall of 25 foot. Broke several vertebrae, broke shoulder in 3 places and skull in 4 places

Yeah. Ive a corset to wear for another 10 weeks and then I should be fit. Bet it be September before I’m right again though

Very worthy charity. There was a nasty incident involving a tractor at a neighbour's a fortnight ago. Unfortunately not a happy outcome, but it wasn't from lack of effort on the part of the crews of the two air ambulances that attended. The expertise and equipment they can bring to remote locations is incredible.

I didn’t know this I’ll I got picked up by them but whereas a normal ambulance carries paramedics and air ambulance carries actual doctors, and as soon as air ambulance arrived there was nothing said but the bloke who came with helicopter took charge. The equipment they have in that thing is great. And the engines sound awesome. Just a shame I couldn’t look out the window from where i was led

She might need the chopper when she lands. She’s strapped to a bloke who drives the parachute I’ve told her on way up to question him

Very good thread. I pay a monthly donation to my local Air Ambulance.

Without turning this in to a political thread, it still amazes me how the entire air ambulance fleet Nationwide are not funded centrally - you wouldn't ring for a charity ambulance or a private one.

I'm on record - and continue to support - Government aid for International Development but I wonder how that 0.7% of GDP compares with the air ambulances' costs annually. Surely there may be sufficient savings even from some of the more public inappropriate fundings there to pay for our air ambulances?

We had a talk at farmers club from northwest air ambulance and they said they’re happy to be a charity rather than government funded. They can choose when they buy new choppers, choose where budget goes etc

Could say the same for the RNLI. Motorbike club and shoot usually raise a bit for NW Air Ambulance, they have scraped a couple of us up a time or two.

The air ambulance attends inner city incidents I'm sure but isn't the air ambulance - and to a lesser extent the RNLI - instantly recognised, valued, appreciated by every rural dweller. Without being too melodramatic it can often be the difference between life and death

Hadn't thought of it that way!!

Just imagine the paperwork if the govt got hold of it!! Would probably add more in cost that the funding helped.

@JCMaloney would sympathise I'm sure!

Exactly what the Nott's and Linc's Air Ambulance says as well.
If they want to attend an agricultural show, or fundraising event, with the helicopter, they can.
