Immigration Good For The Country?

Every country needs migrants. Not only do they bring new ideas (some good, some not so good) but they dilute the gene pool & stop inbreeding.

For better, for worse, we are about to get a new migrant on Saturday (although I find I am washing my hair all day)
Would that be Mrs Simpson?!!

So the people who should no better keep telling us, sure i agree that a lot of jobs our lot should do but cant be bothered for many reasons, but their is another side to this not often talked about, and i cant understand this? Number one the massive need for house building, surley this is a direct connesquence of immigration? alright if your comming from some s..hole, but what about us locals who see our quality of life being destroyed? Another point on another post they are talking about knotter parts from balers being possibley stolen to order for other countries? i have had personnal experience of a vehicle being targeted by foreign gangs that now roam our countryside with no fear from our keystone kops? I havent even got on to the massive drug problem or the fact more of the prisen population is increasing made up of foreign born?
I'll say back up the freight train, now just consider all the people who have exited the UK over the last 400 years and what they have done around the world and in the "british empire", cliche it maybe but kettle calling the pot black.

2 points, immigration is in the short term a very good thing for the overall economy and very mixed for the the native population whatever their genetic makeup. It allows the government to staff our excellent NHS but lets them get away with shamefully under resourcing the training of our own talent. In fact immigration of skilled health workers is essential because of the disgracefully inadequate training in this country.
It also keeps wages for low or unskilled labour low. Great for employers but pants for the traditional working class.

To be fair if you’re backing up the freight train how far do you reverse the Romans the vikings ?
Romans were on foot and Vikings by boat so no freight trains involved. :D One could also ask how many british left the UK under duress and or assisted passage like with the Scotish highland clearances or convicts to Australia , at the benefit of British government of the day?

Perhaps many legal immigrants can speak and write better English than 'natives'. Perhaps many legal immigrants have either enhanced skills, work ethic or both to succeed in a job more than 'natives'. Perhaps many 'natives' do in fact have immigrant blood somewhere in their history and might now know it. Perhaps without legal immigrants our healthcare system, including personal care workers, our hospitality sector, (bar workers, hotel cleaners etc) our agricultural sector and our food sector would collapse. Perhaps legal immigrants pay tax and NI here so it's then up to them what they do with their money - no different to someone who saves a lot rather than spending it. Perhaps a lot of crime is committed by 'natives' but that doesn't make for good headlines does it?

As someone who eats, uses the NHS rather more than I would like to, has a highly qualified brother who has emigrated to work in Spain, cousins who have taken skilled jobs in Canada, USA, and (in the past, Italy), a French aunt who spent all her working life here and has now retired with her English husband to live in France, perhaps I have a more relaxed attitude to legal migration, because yes I think it is a good thing.

I dont care. Seriously. If a man is that valuable and skilled a company can sponsor him and he can b granted a temporary visa with no recourse to any public funds or services whatsoever.

A hungarian thief evading the police in his own country or a polish waiter have no business being in this country where they will cost the exchequer far more than the economic growth they will generate. Its that simple. You try getting legal access to Australia or the US without skills. You will be imprisoned very rapidly and deported.

We only want a comparable system for the UK not a cock up with schengen being the usual excuse.

Blair sold us down the river and now the public services are squeaking.

Well, we would, if we had a less is more policy, rather than just trying to bump up the amount of middle age tax payers going round the hamster wheel to create a tiny bit more demand in a consumption economy.

Young migrants of the age between 25- 45 is exactly what the government want, they dont need to pay for their education/ training and they will very rarely need to use the nhs for big surgery, anything before or after that and they become a burden on the state like natives are.

Lefty socially liberal people then slate the natives for not being as good as the select few people we've stolen from other countries and wonder why right wing governments all over Europe are getting in power and curbing immigration.

You dont want just anyone. Some 30 year old migrant bringing his kids and wife over and having free access to the NHS and education system is pointless.

Immigration is a good thing in balanced amounts. Some wish to come picking fruit or veg. Some come to do hospitality. Some to the health service.
But the ridiculous imbalance that has existed over the last 10 years or so is unsustainable.
We havn't the infrastructure to cope.

They should be given 6 monthly work visas and then sent back, forcibly if needs be.

Only the UK NHS employs migrants in such huge amounts no other European health service does.

Controlled immigration is a good thing. What we have at the minute isn’t despite how they dress the statistics up.

The immigrants that take the minimum wage jobs are taking opportunities away from our own up and coming youngsters that need work, responsibility and a start on the career ladder.

Too many of our home breds are either too lazy to take on these jobs, or have heads full of ideas that lead them to believe that they are too good for them, otherwise there would be less of a problem.

Many of our homebreds are badly let down by our education system. Not everyone is a grade A student I know so why is there no real alternative to academic education until they leave school? Why are tens of thousands of young people encouraged into higher education doing irrelevant useless degrees that are simply delaying the reality of life and work.

Unfortunately for them Mr Blair decided that university was the holy grail. Go there and get a degree and your guaranteed a wonderful job.
The reality is a degree in media or whatever is worth sod all. Been better at technical college and an apprenticeship!

As a 30 something migrant with kids (no wife though), I wonder what exactly, in your opinion, is wrong with this situation? Not sure if we have free access to the NHS and education system (I think my kids might as they are British citizens), but let's for the sake of argument assume we do.

Did you come here too work or bring a few million pounds with you ?

No problem atall if they want to work but this country has a stupid benefits system which attracts people who don’t want to work

And there’s plenty useless British people that don’t want to work either

Why might natives feel opposed to this?

Firstly, our public services are screaming already before health tourists come into the equation!

Second, if I travel to or work in virtually any other country, how much free healthcare or education do you think im entitled to? Zippo is the answer.
