Late night and finishing oats on this farm now then back to barley on the next. Maize drill out next Tuesday. Combi drill going. Nice to see the countryside perking up with grass growing hedges greening up

Drilled early April last year, drought caught it! Languished for weeks recovered but wasn’t the best?

Reckon later here works better on Average we have drilled second week in May before had a decent crop.

Amazing as it is, England is quite a big place so the weather varies a bit from east to west and north to south
So there's probably still some waiting for land to dry, others may have finished. We finished spring drilling yesterday. Barley drilled last weds afternoon is poking through this morning, will be in rows tomorrow!

The stuff drilled Monday evening has just struck so should be in rows next week I hope. The stuff drilled Friday is a bit slower as much more knotty and drier

Thanks, it does look thick in the field. Hope I can keep on top of the manganese for it. Very black Fen in places.

this year lesson so far is never drill when it is not dry enough
just because the drill will do it wait till it is dry enough
a week later but better conditions makes no difference we will see after harvest
last year earlier planted crops were slower to grow and had green tillers into September

True,but this year you needed to get on as soon as you could cos ground has dried right out on top and later drilled crops not combi drilled have suffered.First field I drilled on 13th April is looking superb,later ones 20th april,not so good.First time using ph/drill and really glad of it this year.

What seed rate did you use? Went at over 200hg/ha here and wouldn't want any less

For barley aim is 1000 heads so late planting for yield needs 500 seeds at 2 per plant
My latest for yield had 350 kg seed
In 2013 the latest planted with high seed rate yielded well where establishment was good
N needs to be on before drilling once April is here
