So with the raft of emails from firms that really want to be able to keep informing me of their wares, is anyone doing anything about details held at farm level?
Are we technically supposed to get consent from people we supply or even suppliers to hold their details?
I know most farmers operate on a "wait until it becomes a problem" basis, but has anyone even thought about it?

And I'm surprised not to have had such an email from TFF towers @Clive ?

there is already a thread about this somewhere, TFF has always been compliant re opt in / out as its simply best practice and we don't (and never have ) shared or sold data to any 3rd party. We have a few lines to add to our T&C's about what data we hold (email ad) and what that data is used for. Users have always had the option to edit their preferences in their user control panel. Most forums seem to be taking a similar approach

at farm level unless you do a lot of direct marketing and your are primarlty B2B (not a farm shop or diversified business holding lots of joe public's data you don't have to get too worried about it all but this link may be work a read

If you are a farm and don't deal with the public this is worth a read. As you really don't need to do a lot to change - although you need a process for storing data.

However, if you have diversified and do things like camping/holiday cottages/farm shops then and you want to send out marketing emails, then you do need to look at the consents you have got in the past. This is worth a read:

In the rules, this appears, which I would have thought covers most farmers -

https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-data-protection/

Most organisations that process personal data must notify the ICO of certain details about that processing. However, the Act provides exemptions from notification for:

  • organisations that process personal data only for:
    • staff administration (including payroll);
    • advertising, marketing and public relations (in connection with their own business activity); and
    • accounts and records;
