Muscle strain

I thought I was having heart attacks/strokes! Very bad pain across my chest and below left shoulder blade, but sporadic. I'd be feeling OK, then go out to walk around the stock. Dull pain in both arms, then chest, and I'd have to sit down. Then half an hour later, fine again.

Finally gave in and phoned the surgery. They had me attached to the heart machine by a few dozen leads but apparently I passed that OK. I was then told muscle strain does occur is spasms. Spent all day yesterday in bed feeling very poor, doped up with the maxumum permitted dose of paracetamol. At some points I was shouting out with the pain. Seem to be almost back to normal today but still weak.

Hope that helps somebody. Not nice at all and don't remember doing anything particularly strenuous. But when in doubt, phone the quack! As the nurse said, they'd rather have a false alarm than a corpse!

I had that when I was about 20. I had lifted a Labrador dog over a fence and although I felt nothing at the time, about 1/2 hr later had the same awful sporadic pain. I was with someone at the time and he insisted on taking me to the quack, as I had gone very pale with pain, the surgery was only a couple of miles away and I had the same diagnosis. It's not funny, it bloomin' well hurts! Glad you were OK.

You're right! Bloody painful! Thankfully, I am almost back to normal but taking it easy. I think it could easily be confused with a heart attack.

On a serious note, if you feel like the above get on the phone, it might actually be a heart attack

I am late 70's and have no hesitation in following that advice. I usually phone the health centre or NHS24, both excellent. I was connected up to so many wires I remarked to the nurse that that's what Gulliver must have felt like when he was trussed up by the Lilliputans!

The nurse did say they'd rather have a false alarm than a corpse. But apparently I was fine. Fortunately, Scotland still has a good health service and they are very attentive, so no complaints there.

Daughter is going through similar at the moment.
Intense pain that started in her shoulder going up into her neck , down her right side and right arm .
Extremely painful when she breathed in and out too.
Dr said it was muscle spasms told her to rest and gave her some exercises to do.
Apparently could take up to 6 weeks to get better

That sounds like it. In a fit of enthusiam, I mowed the lawn last night (it was either that or a cut of silage!) and felt a few twinges today, so it is inside, feet up, and feeling guilty watching Judge Judy on TV!:(

I’ve been going through the very same, months of painful breathing. Turned out I had a rib out. Osteopath sorted it.

Best take it easy ,you don't want to make it worse and set you back.

Don't feel guilty we all have our limits and our bodies soon tell us when we reach them.

Why don't you try a nice relaxing bath and possibly a massage may help.
