With out looking it was drilled early October on some rented land that seems well structured
The owner normally makes haylage and wanted to give the land a break before reseeding so asked me to DD it with wheat
It has sat wet all winter

I don't think so. I don't think wireworm is as big a problem in no till as people fear.

The slots were fairly well closed but have opened up to about an inch with the dry weather
I thought it was drought stress in the crop with the slots opening up, but we have had fairly wet weather the last 10 days or so and while other crops have responded to the moisture this field has done nothing

Sorry to go slightly off topic - is wheat following grass considered to be a high risk? I wasnt aware of this and have been using first wheats after grass as part of a rotation for many years.
