used one for years back in the 70s when it was in its heyday. had two, one was an early one that jacked up the whole drill with rams on the axles. great drill whole weight of drill pressed discs into ground. drilled thousands of acres of cereals, rape& turnips ,kale grass seed was drilled twice crossdrilled the second time. the other drill was one of the last drills made . seed rate was governed by cassettes on the drive . coulters were lowerd and raised like a mf 30 drill . coulters were pressed into the ground by double acting ram . in hard ground we used to put extra bags of fert on top the drill. in their time they were the dogs do das. we had 3 meter ones so for transport we used a reekie low loader trailer

Gday mate, I'm currently running one over in Aus, and getting great results from it. Mine is the earlier of the triple disc machines. We use it for direct drilling cereals as well as small seeds such as Lucerne and clovers.
I have made a lot of mods and improvements to it and I'm currently giving it a preseason rebuild.
I have added some aftermarket disc openers to it that are a leading disc setup with a fully greaseable taper bearing setup and you can also bolt a depth wheel onto each unit which is a big plus. They are made by Tatu and if you Google Serafin Machinery you will see them on there.
If you are pretty handy you can repair or make most parts on the drill.
I will post some pics of mine when I get it all back together. A cheap min -till drill.

Serafin's latest single disc seed unit can basically sow into all conditions after extensive testing and trials done through out Australia in a very wet sowing season.
The new SB2013 is extremely easy to maintain and has only two grease points, very quick to adjust depth and an open depth wheel to enable mud and straw to escape.
20" disc enables deeper seeding and more acres before changing discs, large seed boot for high rates and large grains.
This SB2013 is receiving high praise from many farmers due to past results in increased yield and high productivity.

750a coulter but with a disc that's too big stuck on it

How successful were these and could they do a reasonable job drilling into grassland?

Most people got rid only when the seed rollers dissolved and a new set were more than the drill was worth. I kept mine for a rainy day and decided to put an accord unit on it. Would have been a good drill but chanced upon some openers on eBay so changed plans.

drilled some wheat into sprayed off grass(about 100 acres) so bloody hard , drill was filled and put 10 bags fert on top . could only get half inch penetration. told farmer he said that will be alright drill it . after I had finished he disced it twice then rolled with ballast roller. couple of months went by and happened to be passing by looked at that wheat. amazingly allin straight lines with all the tramlines showing .to this day im still scratching my head as to why that worked.

Hopefully the pic works, it is of the Tatu openers I put on my bettinson. You may notice my drill has been painted red prior to it ending up in my hands

Hi all, we are in Aus too and having trouble with our machine all of a sudden mid plant. When I try to push machine down to plant, the turnbuckles both sides break and has broken the hydraulic fittings on the rams. Ground is not moist but not packed down so it’s as if we are getting wrong angle on the main beam from the two rams. I’ve been through the manual but nothing jumps out at me. Have used the planter for years no problems...would you have any suggestions?

HI Dano
Am in Australia also. Have you replaced seed rollers? If so where did you get them?

Hey mate Alan King in Griffith NSW 0269626219 he makes the rollers, he also does the small seeds (plain) roller as well. I think he said he also makes the black rubber suspension blocks that look like a footy too, the rollers were about $80 each. Send us a message if you need any other parts etc, I've got a few more contacts for spares.

Thanks Dano, much appreciated. I will need a few of the suspension blocks as well so thanks for that.
Have you used the small seed rollers for grass seed or feed rape or lucerne? how do they go and do you swap them out of the seed box every time you change seeds or use the fert box for small seeds?
Cheers,
Mark

Gday Mark yes I have used the small seed rollers for lucerne, rye grass and millet, I am fortunate engough to have got my hands on a full set of rollers with the shafts and bearing housings so changing over is very quick and easy. However I found seeding rate accuracy to be pretty poor as the seed would shake around the rollers on a rough paddock. I don't use those rollers much now as I fitted a Davimac small seeds box on the rear of the drill, can sow canola etc very accurately.
B & D engineering in Griffith also make the Hanger cables that go through the rubber suspension blocks
