Some talk on hear about stronger and low dis. points to make it a semi direct drill what became of the farmer trial or did I just dream it up.

Ours was a 2002 machine so a lot might have changed but can't see the springs or tines being strong enough. We did drill spring barley direct into autumn cultivated ground very well though that's what got me into no-till

I'm sure @Badshot does or did use a KV drill as a direct drill.
Correct.
I've used mine direct for quite a while, early years unmodified, broke a lot of springs which gets very expensive.
Then decided to add a leaf, the only way to do that is by buying complete springs and dismantling them.
That did obviously cost a fair bit, but it almost stopped tine breakage.
I made my own boot which put the seed more reliably in the bottom of the slot instead of in the general direction.
I've had fantastic crops with it, but due to blackgrass I have just purchased a weaving gd to get away from waking a load up at drilling
