MF 575 hydraulic tinkerings

Hi guys,

Probably one for MfAndy or some other knowledgable chap on here.

Our 575 (dual clutch) just has the lift pump and no aux pump (usually denoted by the short pipe looping the flow and return together beneath your left buttock LOL).

Query to start off is, when overhauling the lift pump (full overhaul kit) is it a do-able job to fit an aux pump while the lift cover is off, assuming I could find one or more likely just buy a new one. If so, what bits apart from the actual pump would be needed. ie Are there gears, shafts, brackets etc required in there along with buying a pump.

Looking at options for increased flow for spools and loader etc without faffing about with the selector valve always. Overhaul kit is just to treat the old girl to some renewed lift performance, she deserves it after 42 years

Also, am I the only 500 series owner who got fed up of the linkage for said selector valve and just machined a control knob that just came straight out from the selector

you will need a plated drive. this is a housing and gears that transfers the drive up to the aux pump, a suction pipe and outlet pipe, a different side cover for the suction and outlet pie to fix to. a breaker could help with the non wearing parts.

Also, which pump do I need to look out for (visually) if I spot some at a yard. I think some have two ports on top and others have three........or something like that

Some have 2 suction holes some have one. You could get away with either. You will only use the main outlet port. The other 2 can be left open and will just circulate oil.

Whilst I'm in there, I imagine it won't do any harm putting in a shiny new relief valve too. Wet heavy bales this week combined with the wear in the pump over God knows how many years before I owned the 575, meant the relief valve got a bit of a workout to add to the noise of the scotch yoke pump.

Am I right that the 575 (mine is 1976) is an MK3 pump. Do the relief valves for 100/200/600 series have the same thread on the bottom to make them compatible.

Can you just use the tipping pipe to verify the relief valve setting instead of having to reach between the fuel tank and side cover...........

Also, will a plated drive from the dismantlers yard out of a 100/200/600 multipower tractor still be compatible for adding the auxillary pump to our 575, as per the above posts.

Yes you can test from the tipping pipe but if it is connected to the port on the top cover you could have leakage from the stack pipe or cylinder. The relief valve is all part of the pressure control valve and that can be repaired or replaced. Yes it will be a mk3 pump. Late 100 series 200 and 600 series should fit

I think the rattling you hear with the heavy bales, is probably down to the dowels holding the main pump in, but you probably know that. The dowels were on the other end of the pedal pivot points (100series), I think.

Wish there was an easy way to diagnose between the various rattles for commoners like ourselves LOL.

All you can really do with the dowels (without splitting the tractor) is machine oversize ones to be a better fit. Whilst these are dead easy to make, their success would depend on how badly wallered out the the two pockets in the side of the pump were. If they were worn egg shaped you'd still have some rattle to a certain degree.

Thinking back, it lifted the heavy stuff fine, just that it sounded God awful while doing it. If the relief valve was worn or otherwise knackered I guess it would be kinda "two steps forward and one step back" all the way upwards as the oil was diverted to tank.

The dowels I can do one at a time from the outside so that's no problem. If the pins are worn I can just buy new ones and if the sockets are worn I can make some instead.

That being said, I would probably still install the rebuild-kit if I have the cover off to fit my auxillary pump. The parts are cheap and all it takes is a little time. The old girl deserves it haha.

Yes, you have to remove the cross member and panels below the rear window, plus the panel where the seat is mounted, but then you have access to pivot the top cover out to the rear.

We used to use a top link to spread the cab and make it easier to remove the cross member

If I were you I would ditch the pressure control and fit a pressure relief valve, you would also need a new stand pipe.
