First check if it is a Saren or Waterloo engine.
The saren has if memory serves me right asingle fuel filter and the injector pump on the left looking from the drive shaft end.
Sarens were fitted to the smaller 40 series up to 4040 then I think the 50 series used them across the range.
I mAy be wrong and suspect some one will be along to point this out

It sounds like a Saren it has one stanadyne filter at rear of the engine and has a CAV roto pump opposite side (left). I think they are med/ low hundred horses. Just need a few spares and don't want to pay too Deere (sorry) for them. Aftermarket people are better sorted with tractor numbers then combines.

Get the engine model and serial number of the engine plate then cross reference the parts from the on line jd parts catalog. If it’s an OEM engine it could have heaven dutie internals (bigger conrods and pistons) and probably different injectors and pump from the equivalent tractor engine.
Combine engines are designed to run at a constant rpm so they are usually set up to produce more torque so the hang on better.

I don't know how you find that JD parts website but I can't get on with it as it seems to have been designed for clairvoyant people who know what they need. Did they really change the internals? Seems a bit strange.

Perhaps it’s cos I use it everyday but don’t have any issues navigating the site.
There may not be any difference between the combine and tractor engine, but would you really want to spend probably a few hundred quid on engine parts then find they’re wrong, or worse fit them and damaged something!
Get numbers of the engine plate and I’ll try and match it to a tractor, and check if you like.

I’ve just cross referenced the part number for a short motor on both the early and late serial number combines and it doesn’t show as that motor was used in any UK spec tractors, that doesn’t mean some of the internals aren’t the same though
It would help if we had a rough idea of the sort of parts you need?

Hi seems like a can of worms I've opened.
The engine had a very heavy 'beat' not rumble or knock. I'm going to service it and check valve clearances as it possibly could be a slightly tight tappet of not then crack each injector to see if it's just one cylinder. If that reveals nowt I will take all the belts off to eliminate the possibility of belt flat spots or pulley distortion. If that fails the then it's possibly a strip down. It's been like it for a while and is a definite beat not sharp knock out rumble like you get from the big or little ends. Definitely not piston slap so I can't really say until I'm a bit further forward. It did all last season like it so this rules out the critical things I think. I was a bit blasé about it because I had a spare engine from a 1075 but unfortunately having stood for a couple of years its seized

Might be an idea to check the main drive pulley hub bolts are tight on the engine output shaft hub. As I remember there are two pulleys, the outer one is bolted into the main pulley, hiding the hub bolts. My pulley fell off once at speed after running rough.

Bearing behind the pully on the main drive number 9, remove the belts and check for any end float or up/down movement.
They use to ware the splines on the drive shaft also.
