Cover crop prior to spring beans

Have linseed here that could be used. Oats won't be a problem, there's enough wild ones growing on the ground in question [emoji23] I like the idea of trying to plant into the cover and reducing the need for a pre em but don't expect will be brave enough for that

James, we have done this up here this year. Rye is great for the job. It grows so well in spring that the weeds don't.
Just sow beans into it then round up. No more weeds in beans than when we used pre em. Not sure how your Clayton would cope. Using disc drill here.

Rye sound a good idea David. Will see what price the seed is.
Half planning on looking at getting a set of discs for the Claydon and removing the front tine for certain situations

tines for drilling covers , beans and rape, cereal drilling gets the disc seems to work well enough,

it still disturbs a bit as the disc goes in quite a bit, I don't think you would get away with drilling without pre ems tbh we certainly haven't dared be that brave, we did out of character drill some beans using the leading disc in the autumn for a customer they came fine n look ok that was on very light land
