thinking about buying a reader....would like to just record stuff...cart it home and print it out
i use an android phone, but they (Shearwell) do an iPhone app. ' Stockmove Express' which will send info to NLMD (a database somewhere.) - this link shows what that's all about.> http://www.shearwell.co.uk/NLMDI’m considering purchasing a basic stick reader and using it with an app (Apple based) to record info about breeding and lambing and use this info to help select replacements. I would also like to be able to record medicine administrations etc as well.
Any recommendations for what to use?
I am completely green to the world of EID readers and recording information!
Thanks for the link, I will take a look at that.i use an android phone, but they (Shearwell) do an iPhone app. ' Stockmove Express' which will send info to NLMD (a database somewhere.) - this link shows what that's all about.> http://www.shearwell.co.uk/NLMD
I mean, its not like data stored on your own system but it works really well and straightforwardly imo/ime and is far simpler to their Farmworks software which i tried once.
Also as Exmoor Dave says you can read and store the animal eid number (not info tho ) and print it off for movements on a PC or Laptop later in doors i do that and get all killing sheet linked from the abattoir i use.
Can I enter information such as details about lambing, medication administration etc on the XRS 2 device or can it be linked to a tablet etc?I use an XRS 2 with my cattle mainly linked via Bluetooth to the weigh head at present. It can do a whole lot more (next year's learning curve at calving time for me) but it's a very robust, user friendly device and I'm sure could be really handy with sheep.

I will have soon as I bought a good used one just the other day.Has anyone got any experience of the Allflex RS420? My understanding is that it can be linked to an I pad etc quite easily with their app??
Hi there - the Agrident AWR300 and AWL 200 stick readers are well worth taking a look at. You can record management events - medicine treatments, comments, weights, link ewes to lambs etc on these and they come with free software to bring what you have recorded onto your pc. They also link to bluetooth weigh scales & printers as well as detailed flock management software.
I was wondering the same for the XRS 2 reader as well as I saw a second hand one for sale yesterday. Is the AWR300 compatible with other farm management softwares, like Shearwell’s Farmworks or Stockmove express?
Any update on the RS420 @Kiwi Pete?I will have soon as I bought a good used one just the other day.
I am more using it for cattle as my weighhead likes talking to Allflex readers apparently.
I can say it has much better reading distance than my old one - probably double the distance, as I used it this morning to scan cattle off the property.
Am leaning towards eid tagging and keeping some records on my little hobby mob, after seeing the read distance it has.
