25 cows and making good profit... 40 years ago!!!

I know this means nothing now but it is true 25 cows and good profit, always Hereford bull AI calves sold at 2 weeks black calves sold better than red and made better price at Shrewsbury than Welshpool well worth the longer journey and always used BOCM red label nuts , finally all the cleaning out was done with shovel , broom and wheelbarrow

They had a choice of sell them or retain them, they decided that sell seemed attractive but didn't know why, so they decided to wait and see and not put a plan together for what to do next until they had sold them as no one knew what selling them would mean.
actually it was one of the last things Dad told us we should do but as you think its funny then ha ha

Milk around the 40 to 50 mark here and do ok find alot of sales reps don't hang about when they find out how many cows we milk mustn't be big enough for them to deal with me!

I would say that's a good thing. We milk 65ish here on a robot and hardly ever get annoyed with reps unless the ones I contact. I find that round here the more reps with fancy motors in the yard, the more cows you need!!!

I liked the cows well enough just didn't like the milking

I remember a family in a neighbouring village on about 150 acres. Put 3 children through private education and regular new cars and tractors etc. Don't know where it all went wrong, it would be an interesting thing to study.

My grandparents used to milk 25 cows tied up in a shippen on 40 acres until about 15 years ago, they toke over from their parents around 15 years before that.
Until recently they still use to have a milk round and they are both in their 70’s! They made a decent living off both the cows and the milk round but getting older and more red tape has had it effect. They rent all the land out now to sheep farmers
