sorry
i had to clear a paddock of italian ryegrass to plant wild bird cover
cut and baled 20th may
dairy man came (in the middle of the height of the drought)and said it wasnt good enough for his cows
so i give up
they wont pay enough to cover my costs
or wont pay at all
then it wont be good enough
i have given up making silage -forever
giving €5 notes along with each bale leaving the yard
i have a photo of the ryegrass on my phone but i typing this on me computer -i c if i can upload the photo.
palm kernal is the preferred feed on large dairy herds
while i cant make a return from my after grass
last year sheep grazed some of it
and most i left waving all winter

You really do come across as good Samaritan in this thread. Albeit a good Samaritan rhat will make money of what ever forage he can buy and sell.

However, coming off the back of 2013, which I would say was a pretty poor year for many, which followed 12, which was pretty bad too, you did your best to talk the price of forage down and attempt to talk down anyone who suggested selling surplus that year or anyone who suggested a surplus was a good thing.

Yet after casting negativity on such ideas, you now ask farmers to bale all that they can in order to help others.

Careful I called him out on talking straw down yesterday on the price tracker and he got his nickers in a twist about it

Can we do straw swap for hay.
The eastern counties have plenty of straw but no hay/silage.

Maybe we could swap 2 loads of straw for one load of hay!!

I’m up for it

Just remember one thing, the forage market is oversupplied in all areas and thats coming off the back of a good many bad years, this year is a good one so far, where is it all going to go as there ain't the stock to want it
And that's with my farmers hat on

4 years, and you painted a picture of the UK having a surplus despite the weather being bad for growing and that there is a general over supply.
If that was 12 13 that was the year was it Not when 400 trucks a day came over from Ireland carting hay back that no one wanted . Farms In Kent were on the verge of burning it it get rid .
We loaded 20 trucks a day in my yard to get rid of it
But like i said no one is perfect are they sometime people getvit wrong
