We found a circle in wheat years ago, about 2m round, with a notch across it like a capital 'Q'.
The old tractor man (and poacher) said it's where 2 buck hares have been chasing a doe around in circles. After a while the old buck stops running and sits back into the crop (making the nick) and watches the young buck and doe run round and round. When they're too knackered to run any further, the old buck re-enters the fray, and does what the young buck is now too tired to do!

Not sure if it's entirely true (old Albert was famous for his ripping yarns), but it had us in fits of laughter at the time :D

He sounds like the character who told all the Pony Club kids that a Muntjac was a cross between a roe and a hare

Roe are known to chase each other round in circles during the rut (July/August).
