Astrokerb and BLW

Planning on using astrokerb for my BLW control in my osr when I’m happy I have a crop. However I’m concerned that I am perhaps expecting too much from it. Having read the label and thought about the ingredients I think that the label claim of chickweed and thistles is probably about all that one can expect from it as they aren’t that broad spectrum. How do others get on? Am I worrying unnecessarily? Any experiences appreciated.

You can add poppies too, astrokerb is a bit of a compromise, the aminopyralid needs to go onto actively growing smaller weeds which is before it's ideal for propyzamide most years, I've always felt that the amino should be partnered with Crawler for a more effective partner...

In reality you'll do most things with Astro unless you've hedge mustard and cleavers which would have led you to Centium pre em

Keep an eye on Cleavers as you may need to follow up with Galera if needed, but the window for this is small nowadays !!

I use clomazone (Centium) pre em then Astrokerb later on. No other BLW problems other than charlock which nothing outside Clearfield controls anyway. Astrokerb does poppies, mayweed, thistles. Here's the weed spectrum on the label;

I was having the same thoughts a few weeks ago. I mentioned in a thread somewhere about avoiding astro kerb and using a Kat turbo/belkar/ralos product instead for blw control but when I went into it more, astro seems to do most things I need it to, it's cheaper and will wipe out any sneaky grass weeds which put in an appearance.

A separate question and sorry to hijack your thread @flat10 but could I leave the volunteers and take them out with the astro kerb next month.

This is what the field looks like today. The volunteers arnt that thick and don't seem to be competing.

No. Take them out. You don't want to do your kerb too soon. IMO but astrokerb may be different.

Nice crop (y) I'd sort those volunteers in the next few weeks. Leave the Kerb/Crawler/Astrokerb until soil temperatures have dropped & the ground is wet enough for it to work. Barley volunteers seem to be more aggressive than wheat. 0.75 Falcon doesn't break the bank & you'll mop up any nasty grass weeds with the winter residual.

Take out vols now, this will give you flexibility to time the Astro correctly, would be a waste to comprimise the propyzamid just because of some vols...

Don't forget Dow have a postcode checker for suitable conditions on their website

I've got the falcon sitting here ready to go but was just wondering if I could save a few quid.

Glad you think it's a nice crop. I'm a bit worried it's a tad thin. That pic is of new elgar seed what was off the heap to finish of with is nearly twice the size and thicker, it was all drilled at 5 kg/ha

I think I was getting my amino pyralid and chlor pyralid muddled up....:oops:
