When Will It Rain In The South East and East

All this talk of the weather for the winter I am not particularly concerned about as I am sure there will soon be talk of a white Xmas and a big freeze.
What I need is a period of sustained rainfall before we go into the winter.
While we have had small amounts of rain, enough to just keep the grass growing, we have a massive soil water deficit which has been accumulating month by month since April. August having been the only month with close to average rainfall.
Yes we have had a very warm June & July with temperatures that stopped grass growth but the winter coming, without above average rainfall which usually brings higher temperatures then we are going to struggle for feed.

So all you weather experts when is it going to rain in East Sussex and Kent?

Jeez it’s badly shared out, had to stop spreading slurry yesterday too wet and moving calf creep feeders every third day to stop them resembling the Somme

It'll break, and when it does it'll likely be biblical.
Hurricane season is here again, my guess is one or more will hit us with enough energy left to make us wish it would stop again.

What if you don't go to Church though?
Seriously though we do need a more consistent period of rainfall to keep the grass and forage crops growing.
So far this month we have only had 7 mm and no sign of any rain this week and some high temperatures for the time of year which will only increase the deficit!

An inch or two would be handy enough now. But to address the smd it definitely needs sustained rainfall over winter, steady rain that will soak in, not flood and run off, or straight down drains.
A lot of osr is in desperate need of moisture.

It did occur to me that the current dry spell could be the flip side of the very wet years we've had over the last decade or so. We constantly look forward rather than back, what if we've already had the very wet spell to match this dry one?

That's possible of course.
If so, we are in the sh!t. There's not enough moisture to establish any wheat here currently, and that's on my unmoved stubbles for DD. Cultivated ground is literally devoid of moisture.
Osr is hanging in there, DD, I doubt I'd have any if I used my old establishment system. It's a bit patchy as it is now.

Not for us here it wasn't. Last Autumn was dry, most of winter was dry, March this year was wet, but because it had been dry before the ground took the rain, since then been bone dry. In fact its been largely dry here for several years.

To answer your question you will see some rain though the week but over the next 7 days I'm only expecting around 25mm or 1 inch in the SE compare that with 100mm or 4 inches of rain over northern Ireland.

Hope the sun shines( or not) for you but….
Whatever the weather enjoy it!

We are in desperate need of rain east of Norwich , drilling is upon us and no moisture to speak of. Rape is struggling and needs a good shower to get it away from the early vulnerable stage. Sugar beet are very green but are wilting by day again . Going through sub surface cultivation metal like nobody's business.
Had a sneaky peak at a neighbours very large irrigation resevoir and it was breathtaking how low it was, certainly need lots of wet if he is to fill that again over winter. Nature is a great leveller and at some point a thread of when is it going to stop raining will be posted.

From mid Jan to Mid April we had 200mm and that doesn’t include beast from the east snow melt.

I thought after spring 2016 it would be a while before we had another crap spring but spring 2018 was our worst spring in decades

Very hot here today and a very warm night. The ground is as hard as iron and crop growth is struggling, even grass.
No rain down here this month, unless all the Gurus can tell me different.

Balmy here in Norfolk. Just overseeded my large back lawn in the hope of rain but none expected for a week or so. Looks like the water bill will take a hit having to use the hose every day.
