No mursalIs there a vent in the top of the axle?
these are pics of a marshall 100 but iam fairly sure its the same zf gear box ive been looking today mine dosent have a vent plug in the top but you can see where they are some times fitted i had no issues changingView attachment 701250 View attachment 701254 View attachment 701262 View attachment 701266 the seal on the planatry gear side of the brake chamber and have had it full of oil right up to the level plug
could your oil be coming from the side next to the gear box the seal coller that slides on the shaft after the drum it has an o ring in side it that could be leaking once it has been disturbed just a thought i am no mechanic just had one to bits before
the other thing is the same collers on mine had some groove damage on them so thats something else to look out for good luck theres nothing worse than forever having to pull a thing to bits
Out of my work shop manual pages are wrong way about here bottom one first View attachment 701784 View attachment 701786
The other thing that's important is that make sure you put some tape around the grove where the circlip sits as you slide the shaft through the seal some times it can dislodge the seal spring as it passes by then remove the tape I have had that problem before I think the book said foil but I use electrician tape am not a mechanic just had help from friends and a lot of trial and errorLooking at the photo it looks like the last circlip is a few mill off the seal so the way I was doing it wasn't seating it correctly and I couldn't see because the brake drum was in the way.
Thanks for this it's really helpful
every day is a learning day that coller that the inner seal runs on and sits next to the drum has an o ring indide it between the coller and the shaft with a good set of pullers can be pulled off mine came ok but my mate had to put a bit of gentle heat on to help it your getting there though
That's a simple job, all it does is the lever moves a mechanical movement so the only problem is the gasket between the gearbox and pto selector.Did you change the seal on the pto selector shaft during your rebuild? Mines leaking a bit and I was wondering if its a big job or not.

Mine is actually leaking from where the shaft protrudes if that makes any difference? That's a simple job, all it does is the lever moves a mechanical movement so the only problem is the gasket between the gearbox and pto selector.
I used a gasket compound instead of a proper cut gasket on everything attached to the gearbox and there isn't a leak in sight.
I know with mine you take out the bolts and the plate pulls off as its just machanicly hooked over a selector.Mine is actually leaking from where the shaft protrudes if that makes any difference?
Cheers for that, these bloody oil leaks are a nightmareI know with mine you take out the bolts and the plate pulls off as its just machanicly hooked over a selector.
Sounds like the seal has gone on the plate that comes off around the shaft.
You would not want to look under a Ford then.Cheers for that, these bloody oil leaks are a nightmare
