FTTP on Demand

For anyone remotely curious about such gumf, theses are apparently examples of the "connectorised block terminal" that Openreach install on the last/serving pole...

I'm cribbing this post from a thread on thinkbroadband forum. This chap is actually getting his FTTP connected today. Note this is just a 'regular' not "On Demand" fibre install. This was posted on 21 August...

Just thought I would make a quick update to the order process. At this point I'm still not connected. Original order was placed at the start of April so past the 4 month mark!
I went ahead and paid my £350 for the work to be carried out. After a few weeks the contractors arrived on a day when I wasn't at home and the ducting was laid but not in the correct place. I raised this with my ISP who raised it with OR and the order was paused pending another survey. This took a few more weeks and it was agreed to have the ducting moved to the correct location. Somebody else called out today to place some yellow paint on the lawn and told my wife the work would be carried out today but unfortunately it didn't happen. I'm hopeful that tomorrow might be the day.

Once the ducting is finally in place it should just be a matter of an engineer visit to feed the new fibre along the duct and into the house.

For those in the know - At the survey we agreed to have the ONT in my upstairs office with fibre entering the house below the guttering, running through the loft and in through the wall of my office. Will the engineer be willing to go into the loft and pull the fibre along? It's a chalet bungalow so no ladders needed, just through a little upstairs door. Loft is fully floored. If not I can go in and do the loft bit.

So to get connected up in an area, that was already cabled up for FTTP or "premises passed" in BT / Openreach parlance, has basically taken 6 months from date of order!!!

Post from this morning:

Ok, installation day has finally arrived. I'm booked for an 8am - 1pm install so I've been up from 6.30am
smile.gif

I really hope this goes better than the no-show that happened last time.
24 weeks and 3 days since order placed, 1 failed install, survey, drive dug up in wrong place, drive repaired, second survey, drive dug up in right place, fingers crossed!!
Currently on 5mbps ADSL, hopefully 330mbps by this afteroon.

Poor barsteward. he just posted an update. Looks like OR fudged it up. Yet again! :dead:

What a disaster!!!
Enginer arrived, nice guy. Had a look and we walked the path the cable needs to run from the house to the CBT while he measured it with his little wheel thing. Turns out the distance to the CBT from the house is about 350m. Would need another 15-20m in the house too. Much confusion and phone calls to his superior and other engineer. Basically told there are longer cables but nobody has ever actually seen one. Plus they are expensive. Job cannot go ahead and will be passed back to planning
I just can't get my head around this
Survey guy has been here twice. How can they not know the distance to the CBT?? Surely this is the whole point of a survey. How come the engineer was not briefed on the job before he arrived? Can I claim damages from Openreach for the stroke I'm about to have since by blood pressure is off the scale?
Back on to Zen. No engineer report yet, they can't do anything until this is logged so Monday at the earliest before I hear anything. I don't think I have ever been so frustrated and angry.
Does anyone have a address in Openreach I can email or writre to to vent my anger???

Very early doors, as far as timescale goes, with fibre orders. You need oodles of patience with On Demand Fibre it would seem. Not many words coming from Cerberus (or Openreach for that matter)....

However a cursory check of the customer portal tonight reveals an "expected date" has mysteriously appeared; 18 December 2018.

Shall we have bets to see if they make it all happen by then? Just for a larf :ROFLMAO:

In this area -
We (about 25 houses / businesses )were promised FTTP (about 12 months ago ) to be installed about now.- nowt happened
Seems the Gov has critised BT / Open whatsit for not reaching targets.
So they have taken the huff & are not doing any new quotes until a review has been carried out
Good job they don`t run a proper business
Last week we were hearing reports of a man in a white van behaving suspiciosly in the area. On approaching him he claimed to be an openreach surveyor planning a FTTP scheme for our road.
A hoax or progress at last. - Time will tell

My surveyor was wielding a touchpad/tablet and a clipboard! Had some ID around his neck, otherwise wearing civvies. Wouldn’t necessarily pick them as being from Openreach

Your quid is safe G. Very safe I reckon. :p
heck we are down to get FTTP here at the farm as we cant get any BB at all via BT's shocking copper lines
thats meant to be by end of this year, the latest ive heard is its going to be atleast end of 2019
i'll still believe it if & when it ever happens.
In the meantime ive personally been BT free since August 16 & have no plans of joining back with them

Would like to get Fiber to cabinet here so I can get off the 2mb copper but as we are half a mile out the village they are saying we are to far from the exchange

So, how do we stand being 2½ miles from the exchange?
We used to be able to get about 2.8, but since they've been messing with the lines and fitting fibre elsewhere .... we are down to about half of that!!!

It’s a common enough misconception, but the fibre for the FTTP network doesn’t come from the nearest FTTC cabinet. It’s a separate network altogether which runs from the nearest “super” exchange - not necessarily your nearest local exchange either.

For example my FTTP service originates from Ipswich (EAIPS) exchange which is the nearest GEA (Generic Ethernet Access) Headend exchange on the network and not my local serving exchange @ Waldringfield (EAWLD).

For FTTP on Demand the “excess build charge” cost of getting connected, depends ultimately on where your property is, cable distance wise, in relation to the nearest serving fibre “aggregation node” and what infrastructure (ducts or poles) there exists between you and the Ag Node.

You should be able to check your FTTP or FTTPoD eligibility from the BT / Openreach DSL checker.

https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/

Don’t use your copper telephone line number in the checker, use the postcode address search link at the bottom of the page, as it is more accurate.

Otherwise a call to folks like Cerberus Networks or FluidOne who will ultimately tell you if there is an FTTP(oD) service - where the infrastructure exists to do so exists locally.
