Milwaukee impact wrench

How do everyone find their Milwaukees? We have a 1/2 version (will have to double check model) and it really struggles to crack open anything since day 1. No way will it crack open a trailer m18 wheel nut even without first cracking them with bar. Really dissapointed in it. It seems better at tightening though. How would someone actually check its torque ratings?

We found the same, not a patch on the Dewalts that replaced them.

Only buy Dewalt cordless now, latest 5” grinder with 54v dual flow XR batteries is as powerful as a corded tool, with long battery life, its brilliant

Thinking of buying a 18 v battery impact wrench . Been looking at mid/high torque wrenches . Would be used for removing tractor / trailer ect wheel nuts , replacing plough metal , changing hedge cutter flails ect . Just wondered if mid torque would be man enough or would need the high torque ? Think mid torque goes up to 600 ish nm

I have both milwaukee mid torque and 3/4 drive. Both great tools. Mid torque is very compact and not too heavy. 3/4 is heavy and awkward with a 1/2 adaptor but great for wheel nuts. Depends what your going to struggle with most? More wheel nuts get the biggest more random smaller assembly jobs get mid torque.

My only complaint is the first torque setting on mid torque is completely useable its far too low, you can get round this by spending a bit more for the one key versions were you can customise the torque settings to your own desire and i also think they possibly have a higher top end torque? Certainly new 3/4 one key claims higher torque than my standard fuel.

The highest wheel nut torques I would be taking off regularly are 400 mn . But most work would be wearing parts on machines .Would mid torque be up for the wheels ?

Don't underestimate the cost of getting impact sockets for large wheel nuts. They can end up quite dear so if your not doing a lot of wheel nuts regularly it may be cheaper to stick with sockets even though impact gun is more fun. Smaller impact sockets are cheap
Already have a set of 3/4 and 1/2 impact sockets for a rather lathargic 3/4 spaldings air gun .

its cracking them that the mid torque may struggle with. especially if they are counter sunk nuts. will take more than 400nm to undo them if that's what they have been tightened to you can get the 1/2 drive in the high torque its the same as my 3/4 drive just with a 1/2 square on it more or less.

1/2 drive with a 3/4 adaptor to use your bigger sockets is not ideal as loose too much torque just like adding extensions etc

I have an adaptor for my 3/4 down to 1/2 for the smaller tight stuff the mid torque wont do. book spec figures for torque are nothing like using it in the real world so don't go by them alone.

You say about torque loses, recently fitted new discs to our gls and with a 3/4” ratchet it was a hard fiddly job as space was tight. So packed it in and ordered a 3/4”-1/2” adapter was amazed how easily it cracked the big nut and redid them.

Looks like I would be better to buy the high torque with half inch end

Just as a bit of real life size comparison heres my mid torque and 3/4 drive next to a typical 1/2 drive air impact which i should add has not been used in many years! No point cordless got more power!

Edited, got the picture right way up now:ROFLMAO:

Remembered to check model number today!! It must be 3 or 4 yr old now and not done much as it’s a disappointment everytime it comes out of box. It failed to open some rusty M flipping 10 bolts today! Would expect it to either open or shear them! Half inch swivel bar was shapping them like carrots!!

thats mad Mur, there has to be something wrong with it, the one i have here is a M18 CHIWF12, it would nearly snap off a rusty 10mm before you got the trigger fully pulled nearly.
i think it might be the same as Ace's one?.

have the 1/2" gun above plus i bought the smaller 1/2 version for its size, a car wheel nut is abouts its max but its used 80% more of the time than its brother now.
i got a 1/2" and im not sure if its also available in the same Nm's for a 3/8 or if they even do a 3/8th version but an adapter to 3/8 lives on it the whole time nearly.
pics for scale if its any help to the op, i know your looking for compact power but i dont think they made that one yet.
not sure why i has all the steps in the last pic but there must of been some reason but thats an inch drive socket.

That's the old model, I had one but replaced it with the mid torque fuel and gave my dad the old one, it was fine but not a patch on the brushless fuel range. Mine would snap M12 8.8 grade bolts although I think the trigger switch has got a bit iffy with old age but it still works.

I just have a impact screw driver with 1/4hex to 3/8 drive for taking panels off machines like m6 and m8 bolts its quite handy. will shear m6 bolts but not undo a really tight m8, but again its a old brushed version and they do much better ones now, its dam handy for the odd tec screw or wood screw etc as well.
