Bit dry

But in 1989 1990 1991 1996 2011 dry winters were not followed by wet summers

The last 20 years the average rainfall here has increased compared to the previous 20 years
The extra has come during the last 6 months of the year more often August to December

There are often periods of a decade or so which are dryer than the last 15 years and periods that are as wet

When I made previous post I did wonder if your riposte would be the run of dry winters and summers in 89, 90, 91 - so well done with the follow up. You are wrong with 2011 as that was followed with the horror that was June/July 2012 - very dull, lot of rain - low yields and specific weight.

I would still prefer some normal winter rainfall - OK for your heavy boulder clay but some folk have irrigation reservoirs to refill from winter field drainage - so we need some field drainage.

But as ever we have no idea and will get what we get. Nice 10mm yesterday.

Apologies, I had misread your previous post and thought you meant winter of 2011 into spring 2012

I had not picked up you meant winter 2010 leading into spring 2011 - yes agree 2011 was a very dry year - just fortunate there was enough rain in June to finish crops which in this part of the world were good - East Anglia had a poor harvest in 2011.

The 2012 wet summer followed a very dry winter 2011 - I saw very little field drainage until April/May 2012.

Hey ho.

Rivers flat out but fields still soaking away. no ponding as yet, the drought is just a memory now, 15.5 hours of darkness and 0 drying, what a difference to 6 months a go.cant wait till it all starts in the spring again.it will be all so different next year. that what makes farming so different and interesting no two years the same ..
