Good 3/4 bred cattle are still bang on the money no doubt in my mind. Yes dairy bbx have taken a hit but I would say that has a lot to do with the price of hard feed, they do take a bit extra to feed/finish them.

Not a bad trade today really, my best was £1.92/kg for texel x aberfield lambs, averaged £1.78 for everything including 48kg lambs

He has just been crowned Auctioneer of the year 2018 so the fact Exeter's trade on Monday will prob be the worst trade across the UK this week and by a fair margin as well will have not gone down well.

The 28 kilo lambs should have been sent home!

Exeter seems to be off the boil currently, even if you take out all the unfinished lambs trade is still £4/5 head down for the rest on other local markets..

I don't understand why trade at Exeter is falling away currently?

Spoke to Russell today, the average was ruined by a lorry pulling in from up country with 150 pure Lleyn "stores" on board and they would not take them back.

"The heaviest were 36kgs and the lightest 28kgs! Averaged £44 but truly buggered my average!" was his comment.

Russell's a good auctioneer. No wonder he's spitting mad.

Why would a big lorry load turn up on spec at a fat market from a distance, though?
There's surely a story there.

He needs to do something drastic to discourage people from bringing in lambs like this to the prime stock market on Mondays because if he doesn't people will stop bringing lambs that are fit to kill and that will be the start of the end of the Monday prime market at Exeter.

Going forward he needs to sell lambs like this at the end of the sale as stores and not include them in the average prices posted in the report/ on the AHDB website, also for these lambs he should charge double commission compared to what he charges for store lambs on a Friday and hopefully this will encourage people like this to bring them to the Friday store market instead.

No other market in the SW seems to get so many store lambs entered in the prime sale like Exeter seems to be getting currently.

Old boy I know who went down for the store lambs said he saw a lamb or lambs making over 90 he was quite excited,he said their store lamb trade was mental little things he said a strong wind would blow away making over 50 quid

Wouldn't surprise me with the way the job currently is that the store lambs made into the 90's and the prime lambs only got into the 80s :ROFLMAO:

Well I’m taking a few into Exeter tomorrow for “stores”. Prob ave about 43 to 44 kg but not best finished. Suffolk and Texel cross I bought at £45 to £50 when there was bugger all grass. They’ve run on perm pasture since so don’t owe me much.

Spoke to auctioneer and he advised Friday store vs Monday fat.
