Harder 750a discs

Used spaldings last time and seem to have worn similar to originals but not as long maybe the hard dry season we have had
two jd original discs in the drill but cant find them to compare as they all look the same now and ineed a new set, i think APM discs look a good
try as they are 48-52 HRC and an 18mm bevel ......just need to get my head round the job of changing them.

So genuine discs are comfortably over £40 now, and non-genuine a lot cheaper (almost half the price) I'm assuming nobody will still buy genuine? So what is the best non-genuine option at the moment?

Can't even see @Simon Chiles buying them at near double (unless he is on comission from JD[emoji23])

Sadly I’m not, though maybe you should suggest to them that I should be. Even my JD helpline phone number would be worth quite a bit to them.

Only said in jest [emoji6].

Best advertising they have are successful longer term users, even I must have sold a few for them over the years.

You don't have to say Simon if you don't want, but in your opinion are the Genuine worth a 91% price premium?

The trouble with non genuine ones are that you’re not really sure what you are getting so therefore it’s a bit of a gamble. A year ago I would have used Spaldings ones as I was getting good reports back on them, however their quality seems to have deteriorated lately ( according to the feedback I get ) so now I think I’d probably stick to genuine. I’ve requested to JD that they go back to supplying harder discs, I interpret the problem they have with this is that they aren’t sure anyone ( other than me ) is actually willing to pay for them. At the time they were over £60.

But what was the price of the standard JD disc at the time? At over £40 each lord only knows what a harder disc would cost these days!

So a sheet of hardox 450 x5mm is £280. How many discs would you get out of an 8x4 sheet? Would hardox last longer than genuine?
You would need Hardox 500 to be close to to a standard JD disc. Hardox 600 or Hardox extreme would be harder than JD disc. I would suggest getting a couple of disc made (Pegusus Profiles is one company i have used) first before buying sheets of the stuff, it may be that they crack or are difficult to machine etc.....

If any one knows what genuine disc composition spec is.
Hardox 500 or 600 isn’t much more per sheet than 450. Also disc thickness. I would make some at cost if any one wanted to try them. Looking for new avenues, no point having machinery sitting idle.

@simonchiles? I would defiantly be up for trying some.

I have to say my genuine ones are lasting quite well.

That said if companies like Needham are happy to buy Forges De Niaux discs and import them from France to the USA there must be something decent about them

I don't know any Forges de NiAUX AGENTS IN THE UK but they can sell them for £28 in States so we should be able to get them for £20 here surely

All the photo’s I’ve seen of those are missing the larger hole in the middle, the one the closing wheel support arm goes through, and I wasn’t too impressed by the paint quality. Whilst I would be the first to admit that I haven’t even seen one for real, yet alone used a set I’m afraid that that alone would make me suspicious of the hardness quality. If they really are decent then the supplier isn’t doing themselves any favours by sticking up photos like that.

How thick is a disc when new? 3mm? 4mm

5mm. Whilst I admire your enthusiasm I seriously doubt that you can make discs to compete with the major manufacturers. The specifications for this disc are some thirty pages long, it’s not just about hardness. Don’t forget that in your price you’ll have to include packaging and delivery. Sorry to p on your bonfire.
