In my limited use i've liked Forge Knot wire from McVeighs, definitely prefer fixed knot over hinge now.

We've done trial lengths and as long as we can afford it, we will be using it wherever possible.
anyone got any suggestions where I can buy a couple of pallets of decent stakes? local store is Mole Valley and last 250 from them put in the ground less than 20months ago are snapping off now? think theyre made of Balsa wood.

I have a strainrite one like that, no complaints and find it pretty good. I’m sure there may be cheaper alternatives though.

I've got a cheap 'rough neck' one that's had a little modification. Does the job the odd time I need to dig that deep.
I like the Spear and Jackson ones, my mate doesn't and uses a cheaper pair that's lighter.

They work opposite way round to the ones in your link though (shov-holer type)
Yeah I d recommend mcveigh Parker too... get all my wooden posts through them now.
One of the first merchants to accept there was an issue with the present wood treatment and pushed customers toward uc4 and creosoted
I have had 30+ years use out of Drivall mini shuvholers. I find the sort you are looking at are too big for me and work the "wrong" way round. But much depends on the quality of steel used for the blades. They are replaceable on the mini shuvholer.

I think I've passed the 2km mark by now, 5 separate projects. I've used 100 Ecoposts to life extend conventional fences and I have 200 in stock 'cos life extending is a case of bits here and there as necessary.
you recommending the uc4 or the creosoted?

Uc4 are for farmers that can't bring them selves to spend the extra on creosote and to the job properly once and for all.
I use uc4 for repairing/ extending the life of fences that I put up 5- 10 years ago using the standard tantalised shite and creosoted for new fences .
