These are just free range ,running about in the orchard and roosting in trees,,
Only asking as when the shed was full of wheat ,I could have what I liked ,mainly because the chucks ran about the farm yard but they lived in my Orchard ,,Now that the shed has gone and there won't be anymore free corn ,buying it from feed store is out weighing the pleasure of keeping the birds but they do lay well ,,nieghbor has a tray a week ,couple of other folks sometimes have a dozen ,,Im not buying aload of food to keep them as pets unless they can earn their keep

We charge £1.50 for half a dozen organic eggs and have done for years, but seriously thinking of upping it to £2 for half a dozen. For normal free range I reckon £1.50 half dozen is about right.

£3.50/dozen but that's in a farm shop, bought in from local producer at £2/dozen (so producer must still be making money at that) . Therfore if selling at the farm gate I would have thought £2.50 would leave a sufficient margin, perhaps heading up to the £3 mark, which would still be inline or cheaper than for similar quality in store.

Agree price not high enough, kids used to have a few for pocket money but they were getting the wheat for free. Your wheat is expensive at £270/tonne have you not a friendly neighbour who would swap eggs for wheat ? I would if nearer just for the fresh eggs

Droped the bombshell on my neighbor tonight ,shes not impressed a tray is going to be £5 ,well a 20kg bag of wheat @£6.75 and 20kg of layers pellets @7.50 ,plus bedding and water these birds are going to have to earn their keep

People have got too used to food below the cost of production.! (n)

(I was going to type cheap food, but it’s not that cheap in the shops, it’s not getting passed back to the primary producer as you know)

I'd alter that slightly and say that people have become too used to STAPLE foods being below the cost of production. Eggs, milk, bread , etc. They don't mind paying for cakes, chocolate. dessert type stuff.
