Taking it down to a agent chap this aft but just wanted opinions from you lot.

Obvious issues are depth and how far out from the BIG trees on the boundary. As well as damage involved in getting the job actually done on yellow clay land in January and subsequent reseeding and drainage repairs (it's along the bottom edge of the field where all the drains run out).

They've probably decided to (try to) put it underground because of the big trees and their big branches.

The route across my field avoids a (6x) longer route down a little council tarmac lane with major overhanging tree problems.

First question....do you want it there? Will it cause you problems?

Personally I'd say no to almost any utility company wanting to install new utilities across our land. Just not worth the hassle.

It'll be a one off payment in all probability at a fixed ££ / m. Up to you to check the length and meet with the contractor to check route & depth.

Extra ££ for each joint box.

Let your agent handle it. Best to have the paperwork straight before you start to save any upset later on.

It's a pity R.E.A Newton isn't still with us, he'd have sorted out for you, but leave it with your agent to sort out, it shouldn't cost you anything if he's or she's any good.

Does it have to be done right now or will it wait until better weather, I had Northern Powergrid wanting to change a transformer in December one year, told them not a chance until better weather, that was about 10 years ago and they still haven't done it.

Make sure Record of Condition pre and post work, BT Openreach contractors don’t have much empathy for agriculture so broken drains, any old reinstatement could be order of the day. I’ve been involved with a scheme where BT are now sharing a trench with DNO and it’s all being done by a local drainage contractor who will re connect any drains as they go - same as you trench ,is on edge of field. You just don’t want left with the Battle of the Somme to reinstate.

That's ok but not getting me interested. Digging in opencast clay in January? It will be a mess all year and affect the value of the proposed sale.

I’ve just agreed to 45m across a field as it is to connect us to fibre broadband, the twits haven’t realised they will need to go up four more of my fields or the road. Guess they will be back in touch once once they wake up

Be very careful in your dealings we had them wanting to go through 5 of our fields ,messed us around for 18 months wanting to lay it very shallow our agent was useless only interested in fees .
